I'm a PhD student and a typical day involves downloading and reading through lots of journal articles and eBooks. I store these locally on a MacBook. I am looking for something akin to the native Finder app, but which offers separate columns for "Author", "Title", "Year" and so on, as well as tags (very important). I have dabbled with Papers2 and Endnote, and a couple of "Finder"alternatives, but these either (A) duplicate the PDF files and save them elsewhere, or (B) don't offer the author/title/year etc. columns. Is there anything that will do what I'm looking for?

I'm writing the bibliography for my dissertation which is about the animation studio UPA. I need to cite a lot of theatrical cartoons from the 1950s, which I watched on youtube. This Site
give intructions for citing youtube videos, but it seems like its referring to original youtube vids, not existing films. It says to list the username of the contributor as the author, and it feels wrong to credit a John Hubley cartoon to "liquidnature13". Do I need to give the cartoon's director, year of release, and studio, as well as the contributer's username and the year it was uploaded? If so, how should I format it?
(I'm using the Harvard system)

Endnote X2: I have a number of documents in progress that are in the default setting for reference style, I have modified a style to enter refs with the same author and year but every time I try to add something in this modified style it just sends the whole document back to the default style, often taking much of the formatting with it. MetaStyle: When using a superscripted dagger (cross) to indicate a footnote, should the footnote at the bottom of the page be preceded by a superscripted dagger or a regular-sized dagger? Should there be a space between the dagger and the footnote? [more inside]

We're meant to do all of our University assignments with Harvard Referencing. Easy enough. However I've grown used to using Word's system of managing references and it does all the updating itself for any changes I make - has anyone got any ideas how to get Word 2007 (or 2003 / XP) to do the referencing? My Google-fu has failed me so far.
