Fathers Day at Fenway

My father and I were on the Fenway jumbotron on July 12, 2008 but we weren't able to snap a pic. My brother and I brought our father to the game v. The Orioles as a belated father's day gift. He had always brought us to opening day as kids and hadn't been to a game since, so we thought it fitting. We also were given a chunk of Fenway to take home (that my father accidentally knocked off with his foot on the way to the restroom) as another sentimental piece of memorabilia.

I'd love to get my hands on any incidental pic of the jumbotron while we were on it. I've googled "fenway jumbotron July 12" and various other combinations to no effects (though I did find a pic of a 'congratulations to this married couple on their anniversary' on the jumbotron that was displayed during the same game).

If anyone could shed some light, or even find the pic (I'm holding a beer staring off at the jumbotron, my dad's in his 'Maine' cap smiling next to me), I would be forever grateful.

Parking to get to Fenway?

FenwayParkParkingFilter: Driving from southern NH to go to tomorrow night's Fenway game. I think I should park somewhere and take the T in. Where do I park? I'm traveling with family. We're all from the NH/MA area, but it'll be a first for all of us, so I want to make sure this goes off without a hitch.

The following qualities in a parking lot / T ride are important:
- A legal parking spot. (We don't want to chance it in some random shop's parking lot, and risk finding our car towed when we get back.)
- Close to the T. (Short walk from car to T.)
- Not overcrowded: the suggestion's no good if we get there and the parking lot is full! (But we don't want to be the only car in the lot, either...)
- Easy to find. (Hurf durf, city driving...)
- Preferably, cheap, but paying for quality is within reason.
- Not a sketchy place. 4 years of college in the 'burbs taught me that there are places in Boston you don't go at night, but I don't know my way around well enough to know where they are.

The bare essentials from that list: safe, convenient.

Super-bonus points for a route avoiding changing lines (the least important factor, though), telling me the T fare to expect (we don't have Charlie cards and I hear the rates have changed since I was a student), and pointing out anything else that Fenway n00bs should know.

I'll bet you ____ that ____

Looking for some ideas for sporting-team-related-bets - I'm a Red Sox fan, coworker is a Yankees fan, and we're looking for ideas for both bets (e.g., Which team wins more games) and payoffs (e.g., loser has to wear opposing team's jersey to work for a day) We're looking to avoid monetary bets, and he's already taken tattoos off the table. Fun/slightly embarassing ideas are good, permanent/potentially job-losing ideas are probably over the line. For bets, so far we've discussed # of wins, playoff finish, team ERA, team batting average, and team OPS, but I'm sure the hive mind has far more ideas than we could come up with.

If it matters or helps, he's in NYC, I'm in Boston, and we both work in IT consulting. We'd like to get as many small bets as possible lined up by the end of spring training. Thanks!

Japanese Reaction to Red Sox World Series Win?

What was the Japanese media reaction to the Red Sox World Series win? With all the Dice-K mania, I'd love to see how Japanese papers and media responded to the Red Sox' World Series win (especially of the game Matsuzaka pitched). Anyone have any idea where I could find something like this?

Maybe they could try this on Joe Morgan for a few innings

Tim McCarver and Joe Buck were unusually quiet during tonight's broadcast of the Red Sox-Indians game. Does anyone know if there was a specific reason for this? The entire broadcast was light on commentary and really let the game speak for itself. It was very refreshing. Was this just a fluke? Did I imagine it? Please help.

What kind of Daisuke Matsuzaka gear can I get for a baby?

What kind of Daisuke Matsuzaka gear can I get for a baby? A friend of mine has just had a baby and I really want to buy him a Daisuke Matsuzaka footie pajams or some such as a gift as the baby's mother is Japanese and a fan of Daisuke's. Also, as a Red Sox fan I'm looking for any excuse to deck out the baby in team accessories.

The only problem is that as Daisuke's a new signing there's not much official stuff out there so I was curious if anyone knew of any options out there.

Video location

How do I get archived video from ESPN? Alternately, does anybody have a copy of the 8/31/06 Indians at Red Sox game from ESPN? Reward and A follow-up to this question, I still would really like to get my hands on a copy of this game, specifically the ESPN broadcast. Unfortunately, ESPN refers me to MLB, MLB refers me to the Red Sox, who only have the NESN feed, and so they tell me to contact ESPN.

I downloaded the game from mlb.com, but it's the NESN feed and does not include my nieces, who were interviewed by some ESPN "guy in the crowd." At this point I'm offering a modest cash reward ($50, negotiable) for anybody who can supply the video, and also for anybody who can refer me to that person. My sister would be thrilled to have this (me too).

15 Minutes of Adorable

Does anybody have a copy of the Red Sox/Indians game from Monday night on ESPN? Pretty specific, I know, but my twin nieces (9 months old) were apparently featured on the broadcast and ESPN is refusing to send a tape. If anybody happened to tivo it (and save for posterity... good first game to go to at Fenway!), I'd love to get a copy. Thanks! (Brownie points if you also have the Sportscenter that followed, which I hear may have had the twins on the lead-in). Bartered reward.

Help me see the Sox!

Tickets for a Red Sox game...tonight. Of course, there's.... At an incredibly intense training workshop, and have mysteriously found an empty evening. I'm 2 blocks from Fenway park. I, and at least 2-3 friends, would LOVE to see the Sox.

Is there a better/worse place/way to find tickets now, 3 hours before the game?

How much should we expect to pay? None of us care about how good the seats are...

Any tips? We're walking down to the park, but if there is anyone in the are with specific tips, we'd love them!

Where can I get a really high-resolution image (or big print) of Pedro Martinez throwing Don Zimmer to the ground? It would be an image like this or this. I want to have this in poster form. Anything that would print in good quality at greater than about a foot in its longest dimension would be great.

Recreating Baseball Commentary

How can I (legally) recreate the commentary of the last few moments of the Red Sox winning the 2004 World Series? I'm doing a documentary for my Master's Project. There is a possibility of getting funding and maybe even distributing. I would like to open the film with what sounds like the last minute or so of Game 4 of the series (unrelated video goes on top).

1) Is there somewhere I can get a transcript of the actual commentary or an audio/video clip, so I can write something comparable?

2) How differently do I need to write it to avoid infringment? (Is it enough enough to change a few words around if my voice actor sounds wildly different from any actual commentators?)

What happens if the Red Sox, Yankees, and Indians are all tied three days from now?

What happens if the Red Sox, Yankees, and Indians are all tied three days from now? Most. Confusing. Baseball season. Ever.

1) Apparently, the White Sox have the Division title clinched because even if the Indians win all three games against them, they will still only be tied. They will NOT go to a one-game playoff because both teams would be the leader for the Wild Card Spot, which the team with the lesser head-to-head record would take -- which is the Indians, since they are something like 11-8 against the Sox. Right?

2) If the Red Sox and Yankees tie, they will play a one game playoff IF the Indians have the best Wild Card record. If the Indians LOSE the Wild Card spot to either team, there will NOT be a one-game playoff because both teams would qualify for the Wild Card spot, for the same reason listed above.

But what happens if they are ALL tied? The scenerio that seems most likely to me is that whichever team among the Yanks and Red Sox that have the worse record against the other will play a one-game playoff against the Indians, but I have no idea.

There's certainly no shortage of books written about the 2004 Red Sox season, but are any of them any good? I do love some baseball reading in the summer, but don't want to waste my time with schlock. What's the "Boys of Summer," or "Summer of '49" for the 2004 Sox? Or are we still waiting for one to be published?
