My dog is a socially awkward penguin. Where can we board her overnight in Seattle?

What are some good dog boarding/kennel services in Seattle (or, even better, on the Eastside) that will know how handle my sweet but incredibly nervous and poorly socialized dog? My husband and I adopted a dog from an animal shelter in early 2012 (pictures because aww), and while she's sweet and cuddly to my family and friends and does okay with most people, she goes nuts around other dogs. We're trying to socialize her, but it's a slow process; we think she was abused before we had her and has a tendency to feel threatened in various situations. She alternates between full-body trembling and fear-based aggressive growling.

We had a kennel we loved in Austin, TX, who knew how to handle her well and really didn't have trouble with her (she even seemed to like the experience!), but I'm having difficulty finding one in the Bellevue/Redmond/Kirkland or Seattle areas that will work for us. Either I can only find daytime "pet sitting" services--we need an overnight service for an upcoming trip--or services that won't take dogs with behavioral problems. Others seem to fit the bill but have reviews that suggest they're not as into reward-based treatment as I'd like.

The one place we found that sounded okay was this vet, but we'd have to take pick her up on a Sunday, as they don't allow pickups on Saturday. :( That's more time away from our dog than is necessary and a waste of money.

So...any good places you guys can recommend? Bonus points if they're good at socializing her while we're away.

Thanks ahead of time!

Need a dentist on the Seattle Eastside

Seattle Eastside dentist recommendation, please? Special issue: I haven't seen a dentist in 16 years. Yes, you read that right. Through a combination of laziness and a simple lack of funds, I haven't seen a dentist in 16 years. But I shipped a big freelance design project that paid me quite well, and now I have a small pile of free money to devote to this. Yay for me.

I don't think I have any major issues in my piehole, although I'm certain there will be cavities to fill.

I need a dentist that's modern, good, friendly and won't make me feel like a complete idiot for waiting this long. I need my teeth fixed, not my hand slapped.

Seattle Eastside recommedations required -- Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland, Sammamish and Issaquah.

Make with the recommendations.

Streaming video of public meeting. How do I download for offline viewing?

Video pirates, ahoy. All I want to do is save .wmv streams of some Seattle-area public meetings to my computer, for offline viewing. Simple, right? Easier said than done! They are in WMV format, I believe, and stream just fine, but the setup seems designed to confound downloading.

I tried VLC 1.1.7, but didn't seem to be getting any audio. Is there a simple fix for that I'm overlooking?

The tools I have available are Firefox, Chrome, IE, Windows Media Player and VLC.

Guidance gratefully appreciated.

Where should we have a party?

What would be a good place to have a post-wedding reception for ~100 people in or around Seattle, WA? The wedding is in Wisconsin but we want a reception for all of our coworkers back in Seattle. I work on the east side and about 80% of my coworkers live there. SO is a grad student at UW. This means we'll have a mix of people coming from UDistrict and people coming from Redmond/Bellevue. I'm thinking something on the east side would probably be cheaper, and since east siders like to bitch about driving around in Seattle I'm leaning towards something near Redmond or Bellevue.

I haven't decided yet whether it's going to have catered food or whether it will be a pot luck. The event will be early June (wedding is May 22, we leave on honeymoon June 18th-ish so it'll fall between these two dates). I'd like some sort of DJ/band. Someone to serve drinks would be good.

Any other ideas/gotchas/did you think of this'es welcome.

And what do you think about a pot luck wedding reception?

Where to go in Bellevue, Washington and Surrounding Eastside?

Looking for Local happenings blogs like Seattlest and company, but for the Eastside. Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Issaquah, Bothell, Renton, Woodenville and the surrounding areas Basically I'm looking for blogs that list current events that are happening in their coverage zone. Right now I seem to get most of my, "Oh that sounds like fun" events from Seattle based blogs and friends in Seattle. The only problem is the only events I usually know about on the eastside come from friends and what I notice posted in the library.

Redmonds filled with Microsofties so there has to be a few good local blogs there right?

Thanks

Moving to Seattle/Bellevue - help me move/adjust

I am moving to Seattle/Redmond/Bellevue after being in Los Angeles for quite a long time. Moving from SoCal to WA is quite a change and I interested in getting tips/recommendations/suggestions from the hive mind to help me adjust in the new city. I am 24, single male, moving to SEA for my work. LA was pretty dry but many times I used to find it cooler than how I liked.

I have a tendency of falling sick when weather changes suddenly and when the temperature dips so I am worried about Seattle. Luckily my workplace is a 10 minute bus ride from my house so not much of a commute but I still would prefer staying dry.

- What sort of clothes would you recommend? Rainy wear?
- Being sane and not getting depressed in the gray cloudy weather? (which i have heard about but am yet to experience as I haven't been in Seattle for long).
- Any tips for my electronic devices?
- Good (not too expensive) places to eat/have some fun/meet people
- Any other suggestions.

I have many past posts related Seattle but they have primarily dealt with housing/localities etc.

Thanks :)

Redmond or Kirkland hotel

Attending a MS seminar in Redmond, need hotel/driving advice. My company has a relationship with Marriott hotels, and there are several in the area. However, it would save a fairly good-sized chunk of money to stay in Kirkland rather than Redmond ($40 a night premium to be closest), but what I'm concerned about is the drive. The seminar starts at 8:00 AM and goes until 4:30 each day, M-F. I'm willing to spend a few more dollars to be closer to the MS campus if the drive is going to suck, but if it's not going to be horrid I will drive the extra 10 miles. Bonus: Taking my 14-year-old daughter with me, anything fun for her to see while we're there?

Need a pool on the Eastside, stat.

Seattle Eastside swimmers unite! I'm moving to Sammamish, working in Redmond, and I need access to a lap swimming pool for workouts. Someone throw me a life ring? Health clubs, high schools, whatever. It needs to be open to the public, preferably with a wide range of hours. It can have a cost, like a health club, but shouldn't be terribly expensive. Obviously, it needs to be big enough to, you know, swim laps.

But the No. 1 priority is that it's not crowded. I can't stand sharing a lane with more than one person, circle pattern be damned.

Whaddya got for me?

what do you think of seattle mental health?

Does anyone have experience with Seattle Mental Health's Northwest Counseling Institute in Redmond, Washington? I'm trying to deal with depression and stress issues (I've been having trouble with them for years, really) and finding a therapist is intimidating. Seattle Mental Health (website) has a counseling center with different types of professionals all in one place, which seems convenient. Has anyone had any experiences with the place, positive or negative?

Also, are there any reasons you'd suggest picking an individual therapist instead?

If anyone has input they don't want to post here, you can send it to me at tiredofbeingtired@gmail.com

Beyond Seattle

Are there any areas around Seattle worth checking out while I'm visiting Seattle. My trip is partially for vacation and partially to see if it is an area I might like to move to. Will it be worthwhile to check out neighboring areas like Kirkland and/or Redmond?

Which areas should I check out and what spots are worth visiting beyond the touristy areas in seattle? I'd love to hear some suggestions for fun and interesting things to experience in neighboring areas and seattle neighborhoods outside of downtown seattle.
