I was recently recruited for a mid-level role at a young startup (tech in development for several years; company has existed for about a year).
My gut feeling about the product and the tech is that it's viable. The market is there, and I myself would use the product. This is not the case for 80% of startup products/ideas that I see.
I'm not so sure how I feel about the founders or the results of the first interview. [more inside]

Dream company headhunted me a month ago for dream job(s). They were eager to get to know me the first week, and now, four weeks later, I haven't heard from them at all despite their professed interest in me and desire to get me in for an interview. This is weird because I am uniquely qualified for the jobs they're trying to fill and they sounded desperate. Given the communication history described behind the cut, what should my next steps be? I run a small-scale but pretty profitable business (5 employees). Entertainment agency. I'm very fortunate to both love my job and really really like the people who work for me. I feel positive about our company and the work we do. We're growing all the time.
One of them - the administrative lynch-pin/office manager/keeper of all knowledge is moving abroad to join her long-distance boyfriend. I'm gutted and feel she's going to be really hard to replace. Can you help me? [more inside]

My employer is asking me to look into recruiting strategies for LAMP/PHP developers. We've been having bad luck finding appropriate candidates and actually getting them in for interviews (posting jobs on CareerBuilder & CL). I'm not really an HR person (nor am I a tech person), so I've never done this before. He's interested in possibly buying resume access on Monster, CareerBuilder, or Dice -- is one better than the others for this type of thing? Any suggestions for other strategies to use? [more inside]

Two months ago, I applied online for a position at a US-based software developer and have not heard back from them beyond an automatic receipt confirmation. The job, along with related vacancies, is still published on their site. Would it be acceptable to contact the company's HR manager via e-mail or LinkedIn to express my continued interest in the position? Snowflake details inside. [more inside]

Web development work in Sydney: where to go ... what to know?
I'm a web developer, and might be getting laid off from my corporate job in Sydney next year.
So, two questions really:
- What's the best way to find work? Which agencies are the best? Which websites?
- I have a bit of lead-time, and I should probably be thinking about brushing up on my skills: I've spent a lot of time working on idiosyncratic in-house CMS and maintenance tools which would make you splutter if you saw them. So ... Drupal? JSP? Front-end stuff like JQuery/AJAX? What are the technologies in demand?

I have recently been appointed the 'membership chair' for a hobby-related organization of which I have been a member for some years. The club president and I have agreed that my duties will consist largely of:
* Contacting members who have lapsed and inviting them to rejoin
* Devising various means of recruiting new members
I have no experience in this sort of work. I could definitely use pointers, suggestions, and especially referrals to any articles or books that may be relevant.

you're hunting. How would you pursue new opportunities while treating your current employer ethically?

Can anyone recommend a recruitment or temp agency that specialises in placing 'creative' types in Adelaide or Melbourne, Australia? I currently work in Admin and wouldn't mind doing the same job elsewhere, if only it was with people who were more cosmopolitan and less conservative than my current job. I was thinking something in the publishing or entertainment industries but anything associated with this general area is also OK. Ideally I'd be hoping to use my 'in' in the industry to help me further my own agenda: writing, with a specialisation in writing about music and counterculture.
