FileSystemHelp: I really messed up while installing Windows 7. I wasn't paying attention and marked my secondary drive for deletion (clicked on the drive, clicked delete). I then realized that this was my 1TB drive, with all of my files and pictures on it. [more inside]

I just know I can't be the first person to ever do this, but I haven't been able to find an answer. I religiously back up my files from my local drive to my network every day, but it appears that yesterday, while I was in a hurry, I actually copied the files from my network drive down to my local drive, thus overwriting a very full day of work on one particular file. Is there anyway I can get back the version that was stored on my local drive or am I, as I fear, screwed? Also, when I try to search my local drive for all the files with the same extensions (*.as) in hopes that I actually just saved it in the wrong place, Windows XP tells me I have no files with that extension, even though I can see that I do. Is it possible that my problems are bigger than my own incompetence?

I'm trying to access some old backup CDs and can't remember what backup program I used to create them. The only thing Windows can see on the CDs is a README.txt file that says: "This disc is a backup CD. Except for this file the contents of this disc must be accessed using your backup software." The rest of the data is invisible and presumably in a proprietary backup format. I followed this advice to no avail. Anybody know what backup program I used back then?

I just did a full WinXP reinstall. In the process, I took an 80 gig drive which was partitioned to 10/30/40 gig partitions and repartitioned it to 10/10/20/15/25 partitions. Unfortunately, that 40 gig partition held my "My Documents" holding a bunch of Word documents spanning the years and a lot of digital photos that are irreplaceable.
I've tried a few file recovery programs with limited success (recovered around 20% of my files) however I think the problem is the repartitions have split a lot of the files across two or more partitions. Is there a way I can recombine these partitions and try the file recovery programs again??
