How to set up automatic phone recording through my computer.

I have a small business with 3 phone lines, and I would like to have our phone calls with customers recorded to the computer automatically for quality and training purposes. Is there some sort of audio card I need for each computer that can do this? I would also need a recommended software to use (doesn't have to be free). Is this feasible, especially having it start recording automatically without employee input? [more inside]

Need advice on rebuilding a stripped-down audio recording studio

I want to (re)build a small, mostly digital studio in my office. I write and play mostly indy pop, typically using no more than 16 tracks with a mix of electronic and acoustic instruments. Although I have a ton of gear, most of that will remain in boxes. I'm going for a smallish singer/songwriter production suite. [more inside]

Automated shoutcast stream ripping for XP?!

Can anyone recommend a WinXP-friendly solution -- ideally shareware, freeware, or open source -- for automatically recording online radio streams such as shoutcast at pre-selected times, a few times a week? Sounds out of Place

I heard a term somewhere that referred to the modern phenomena of sounds being decoupled from what produces them, in the sense that it's no longer a one-to-one relationship between sound and thing. So whereas previously every time you heard a bark you knew it was a dog, now it could be a TV, a computer, or a robot dog. Likewise, a big professional sound system could sound like almost anything. I think the originator was an academic. I distinctly remembering seeing mention of this on wikipedia once. What was that term? Who coined it?

I'm looking for an affordable recording interface and I think I have it narrowed down to these two M-Audio products, this one and this one.
