I would like to know which program is a really good one to record Skype calls. I have tried some but not sure which one to purchase. Maybe you could recommend a free one.

What is the best call recorder for Skype for Windows Vista and Windows 7? Preferably free, but call quality is paramount (including having local side recorded on a separate channel from the remote side) and ease of use.

Starting a podcast (spoken word) and suddenly have the opportunity to interview the exact people I really shouldn't be "practicing" on. I'm a radiophile, want decent sound, but have no time to learn the technical side of sound recording before my interviews in a few days. Can I spend a little up front to make decent sound or do I just need to spend more?

I play the recorder, using a basic recorder -- mic -- pedals -- amp setup. Pedal 1 provides delay; pedal 2 is the tricky part. There's a specific processing effect I'm looking for, which is this: 1) Clip the input signal above a defined decibel limit (
not frequency limit); 2) Feed to output ONLY the signal above this limit.

I need recommendations for a digital video recorder designed for multiple video inputs, including sound, (four cameras point at an animal enclosure at a zoo) that's designed to allow for easy access to the videos recorded. Networkable would be really great, or standard removable storage (USB/SATA). I'd prefer it if the device recorded directly in a standard video format so no conversion from a proprietary format is needed.

Is it reasonable to expect to be able to try a wind instrument before buying it? I just bought a 'Gill' Wooden Sopranino recorder (Baroque fingering, of course) from a store in Boston without doing so, and got back to find that the lowest G and B notes (eq. to D and F# on C-tuned instruments) are so out of tune as to be unusable. I'll try to request a replacement since it was a $40 investment, but since I'm looking to purchase other such instruments in the future I'd like to know more about the ground rules.

Looking for a portable digital recorder that is as small as possible but has a powered 1/8" stereo mic in (for a binaural mic), records uncompressed PCM at at least 16-bit 44KHz, has removable storage, and does not need special software to transfer and deal with files on a computer (e.g. it should record direct to aiff or wav on the card.)

Advice on a portable digital recording device. Mostly for recording phone interviews (and not for broadcast), but I'd like something easy to mic, Mac compatible, and not overly complicated or fussy. (Not the first time asked, I know, but the state of the art does change so fast.)

Problems with recording DVD's.
Do I need a cleaner? or a different machine? I get lousy recordings, some of the time. One and a half years ago I bought a reconditioned Toshiba DVD and VCR Recorder/Player. D-VR3SU/ I basically like it, it was relatively easy to learn how to use it, though that took a while. My old VCR had died, and it made sense to me to go digital, but I have a lot of tapes I wanted to copy. And I was busy. For a while, it seemed to work fine, but many of the copies i didn't watch, so it was hard to tell.

Problem with DVD/VCR recorder/player - all of a sudden, the VCR part won't record, it says "Check record safety tab" and ejects every tape I try, including the tape I had recorded on the previous night. The first tape I tried was a brand new tape, same thing. At first I thought the new tape was defective, but the problem happens on all the new tapes I just bought, and one's I've used for recording recently. Could the new tape have screwed it up somehow?

I have recently bought a Toshiba DVD/HDD recorder. It is hooked up to basic cable (no sat or hi-def) and I can use the TV Guide service to pick which programs I wish to record. The only problem is for some reason our local community cable station is not on the TV Guide grid so I can't record anything off of it. I receive the channel just fine.
I've looked at different things throughout the user guide but cannot find anything on how to get the channel onto my TV Guide grid. Is there a way to do this?

I'm a journalist who still uses an old school stereo Sony TCS-580v for recording conversations. It's been discontinued, and the one I have is worse for wear. I was thinking about switching to a digital voice recorder -- by Sony -- and wondered if anyone had any experience with them. Sound quality and dependability are of prime concern, more than weight or portability ... and can you transfer files on those things to a Mac?

Why does the manual on my new DVD/VCR recorder say "do not install NEAR any heat sources such as radiators,..or other(including amplifiers that produce heat)"? I just bought a Toshiba D-VR3SU and if I put it in place of my old VCR it is about 2" from my amplifier. Well the amp gets warm, but I can't feel any heat more than 1/4" away. Do I really need to rearrange all the stuff to avoid this? The manual says this twice!
