What are the canonical "cocksman" blues performances? i.e. Howlin' Wolf - "Back Door Man". I'm planning a "mixtape". That's what we called 'em. And we wore onions on our belts... which was the style at the time...

Can anyone recommend songs that sound like "Carol Brown" by Flight of the Conchords? "Carol Brown" is my favorite Flight of the Conchords song just from how darn catchy it is, so I would love to hear songs that sound somewhat similar. And yes, I know the song is a reference to "50 Ways to Leave your Lover" by Paul Simon, but it doesn't have the sound I'm looking for.

The KEXP or KCRW of Europe

Best alternative-music podcasts in Western Europe and Latin America? I would like to know: what are the best alternative-music podcasts from Western Europe and Latin America?

There are several U.S. podcasts I enjoy on the iPod, such as KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic and Today's Top Tune; KEXP's Song of the Day; NPR's All Songs Considered and World Cafe.

These play artists like Loudon Wainwright, Rodney Crowell, Damien Rice, Magic Numbers, Zap Mama, Iron and Wine, Jim White, Conor Oberst, Kings of Convenience, Jose Gonzalez, Okkervil River, Julieta Venegas, Calexico, etc.

But I would like to know more about podcasts that feature such music beyond the U.S., preferably in English, or a Romance or Germanic language.

Thank you for any information.

More Flight of the Conchords

Help me find more music like Flight of the Conchords and Tenacious D. I'm not a big music fan. Still, I got turned on to Flight of the Conchords and Tenacious D via their respective HBO shows. The shows are great, but I have bought the CDs as well, and I really like the music itself. The qualities I like are the catchy, sometimes genre-defying tunes, the clever and comprehensible lyrics, and of course the humor.

Are there other singers/bands/comics/whatever that are similar to the above and worth a listen?

Good Duets

What are some good duets? As examples, I enjoy Johnny Cash's and June Carter's "If I Were a Carpenter" and the White Stripes's (mostly duet) "It's True that we Love One Another." The Indigo Girls ain't too shabby, either.

songs about gratitude

I'm looking for songs about gratitude/giving thanks. I've compiled a short list (a dozen or so with the usual suspects: The Beatles -- Thank You Girl; Talking Heads - Thank You for Sending Me an Angel, Pete Rock -- Appreciate, etc.) but I know there are a lot that I'm overlooking. Also, some of them are more about whatever they're thankful for than about the thanks itself (which is okay but tends to be situation-specific).

Google isn't helping me much because a) there's a band called "Gratitude" and b) I'm probably just using all the wrong queries: most return millions of (irrelevant) results; "songs about gratitude" returns three. So. I think this is the kind of question that an automated system can't do too well on, or at least not with my current approach.

What songs do you know of that are about gratitude or giving thanks? Or, how should I go about this to get better results. Any tips or suggestions appreciated.

Style of Music of This Background Track, and Recommendations for Similar Stuff?

music type/genre question - the background track on this page from this site is wonderful stuff from a fellow named louis sclavis - while i like his stuff, i'm more interested in finding out what the specific style of the song used for the background track is? and if readers have any suggestions for more artists doing stuff in this style?
