Are there any NYC photographers who will do family portraits for a reasonable price?

I don't know why photographers' websites are all so terrible, but I am having difficulty looking for a good photographer in New York City who will display a general idea of rates. I want to get some family portraits done (6 adults, one baby), and I want something better than Sears, but something less than $1,000. Google and yelp.com aren't providing me too many options - it seems most want to do just headshots or weddings. I give up on websites that make me click through several pages without letting me easily find contact info or rates.

I would love any specific recommendations for photographers who will do family portraits in New York?

Hotel recommendations needed for NYC. Ideally downtown. Not crazy expensive, but it's for my parents, so it needs to be fancier than a backpacker's hotel/hostel (eg, private bath, not too noisy, clean, etc). Many thanks!

I'm going to NYC for a week in September. I need recommendations of the best alternative/weird/unusual/eye-opening places in Manhattan. I'm going to NYC for a week in September.

I want to experience the unusual side of NYC - avoid the mainstream, any kind of tourist sight-seeing, the big shops etc. With that in mind, I would love to hear recommendations (with descriptions - not just a list of names) of awesome examples of places to go to in Manhattan that fall into the following categories:

* Somewhere that is deserted and dusty and eerie - an old warehouse, an abandoned street or whatever.
* A squat that has fun events (music, art, workshops, talks, films, whatever).
* A queer (not gay) hangout.
* Clothes shops that sell unusual/alternative/strange things.
* The best music shop for hardcore/grind.
* Somewhere that is publically accessible but relatively deserted where you can get up really, really high and look over the city.
* The best burger bar.
* Local bands that gig a lot in NYC who just must be seen by someone who likes hardcore/punk-rock/grind/queercore.
* A great bookshop with a leaning towards anarchism or radical politics or music or queerness.
* A good place where people are doing interesting radical politics (a bar, a club, a squat, a street, a meeting).
* A random place that I haven't covered here that I really should go to.

NYC Galleries Tomorrow? Taking the early Accela from Boston, getting into Penn Station at 11:30. Hitting the new MOMA for some art absorbtion - but are there other things / galleries that I should hit before the Pixies show? I'm meeting up with a friend @ 5:30 who's treating me to the concert. I'll be staying through the next noon, so that's also an option for hunting.

I'm going to Churrascaria Plataforma in NYC in a couple of weeks, an all-you-can-eat Brazilian restaurant that encourages gastronomic excess. What are strategies I can employ to help me consume more food than a person should reasonably eat in a single sitting? (Time isn't a factor, I don't think--it's a fixed-price menu, and I believe you can stay as long as you like.) And is there any Brazilian cuisine that I should try while I'm there?

Anyone know a good psychiatrist in NYC? Not a psychotherapist, but an MD who can proscribe drugs. I have a friend who thinks he may be clinically depressed but is mistrustful of doctors.

I'm planning on spending this coming weekend (February 20-22) in New York City. On the agenda is the MeFi meetup, of course, but some other time that weekend I'd also like to go dancing somewhere. Can anyone recommend a good club, or a DJ that's appearing somewhere? [more inside] I'd prefer something without a ridiculously expensive entry fee, and something where I won't have to wait outside for forty-five minutes to get into a club that's almost completely empty, while VIPs skip the line in the meantime. I don't have a musical preference--I'm open to suggestions, and anything with the semblance of a beat will do, as long as I know what I'm getting into.
