What is the best place fora foodie to eat in STL? I grew up in STL. Haven't lived there for close to 10 years, but I'm going back soon for a family event. In the time I've been gone, I have to believe that some wonderful, modern restaurants have opened. I would like to eat at one.

Some guidelines:
* I am looking for new, creative, modern, etc.
* Local/fresh/organic and vegetarian options a huge bonus. I pray to the alter of Micheal Pollan and Alice Waters. I'm a card-carrying member of Slow Food.
* No regional cuisine, unless it's really new. This means no BBQ and no thin-crust pizza joints.
* No Italian. I've been everywhere on the hill. I've been to Tony's. I've been to Cafe Napoli.
* Good locations are anywhere along the central corridor: Washington, the Hill, UCity Loop, CWE, Clayton, etc. West county and Bridgeton is acceptable, since I'll be there too.
* Bad locations: Fenton, Ellisville, Wentzville, North Florrisent, Alton, etc.
* Please don't mention Ted Drewes.

E.g. something like Nopa.

Thanks!

Looking for the ideal hangout in South Bay/Long Beach...

Looking for a good bar/coffee/food place in the South Bay/Long Beach, CA that works for an unknown number of people with a wide variety of tastes... I want to get a bunch of my old high school friends together when I go visit Long Beach again in October, and I want to find a place that:

A) Won't require reservations for big groups (because I don't know if there will be a big group)
B) Isn't a sit-down type of restaurant, but will serve food
C) Serves a variety of drinks (non-alcoholic, coffee, cocktails, etc.)
D) Is not a sports bar or a meat market or anything like that
E) Veers a bit on the eccentric without trying too hard to be "wacky"
F) Cheerfully caters to a jeans-and-t-shirt clientèle.

Bonus points if it panders shamelessly to nerds.

For an example of what I'm thinking, if the situation was reversed, and I had a bunch of people coming to Nottingham who wanted to go out and have a few drinks, I would take them to the Malt Cross. There, I know I can get an excellent rum and coke or cup of coffee, a good burger, and I'm in an old Victorian vaudeville hall of awesomeness. Or, if I was feeling a bit more kitschy, I'd take them to the Pit & the Pendulum (the website looks like it was hacked, alas), where I know I can get a weird cocktail, some decent food, and it's decked out like a Vincent Price movie.

It doesn't necessarily need to be South Bay/Long Beach - it just seems easier to me, since we all grew up around Long Beach, Carson, Torrance, etc. I'll also caging rides from people rather than driving myself, and I'd much rather talk someone into driving an extra 10 minutes than an extra 45...

(I just don't want to end up hanging out at Del Amo Mall, like I did when I was 17...)

Lunch in Hartford?

Best places to grab lunch within walking distance of Constitution Plaza in Hartford, CT? My company has me in downtown Hartford for at least a month and I'd love suggestions for good lunch spots. I'm interested in all varieties/nationalities of food, with an eye towards a bargain (but I might splurge if someplace pricey was considered worth it.)

Good places to relax, eat, and drink in New Orleans?

Recommend places to eat, drink, relax, and generally take life slow while on vacation in New Orleans, please! Next week a friend and I will be spending a couple days in New Orleans. We're coming from Chicago, where it is currently 39 degrees Fahrenheit and threats of snow hang over our heads. This isn't a tourist-y type vacation; I just want to spend my time in a constant state of mild inebriation, sitting outside soaking up the sun, drinking and eating good things.

Can you recommend sidewalk or patio cafes where one can sit back and take it easy? Or any other good restaurant/bar with a similar vibe? We're staying in the Garden District, but don't need to stay in that neighborhood necessarily. Also, any recommendations for interesting thrift/antique mall type shops? We are already excited for the abundance of free music at French Quarter Fest.

Thanks in advance!

General restaurant recommendations for either London, Dublin, or Cork I'll be going to London, Dublin, and Cork in August. Do you have any recommendations for things to do? Or places to stay in Dublin and Cork? I know that there is good Indian food to be eaten in London, but I don't want to just wander around trying to find food. Other restaurant recommendations also appreciated.

Thai Food on / around Sunset?

Places to eat in Los Angeles, ArcLight edition. Hey, I'm looking for any recommendations for, moderately-priced place to eat for lunch around the ArcLight in Los Angeles. In particular, I'm looking for suggestions for good Thai (I know Thai Town is nearby...) or Vietnamese places, but that's not a rigid requirement.

I'd be more than happy with any other recommendations. I'd like to get an idea of what are the good places around there.

prove: the internet is DELICIOUS

Good, preferably vegetarian-inclusive or focused, recipe blogs? Alternatively, one really good recipe magazine in the same category. I live in a college dorm for the time being, and don't really cook while school is in session due to lack of kitchen and overabundance of paid-for meal points. However, my dining hall is a fairly cool place in that, if supplied with a reasonable recipe, they'll try making it. Their vegetarian options could definitely use some spunk; and, besides that, I'd like to ideally begin collecting my own little treasury of "gotta-try-that"s.

I already read 101 Cookbooks, and enjoy the content, but it updates so infrequently that I definitely need some filler.

I'd also be willing to possibly subscribe to a single recipe print format magazine if someone really heartily recommends one.

Recommend me a good Korean restaurant in San Francisco, please.

I'd like some recommendations for Korean restaurants in San Francisco. Preferably, but not mandatory, the following would apply:
1) Close to the Mission (Dolores Park area)
2) Freaking amazing kimchi
3) Mulnengmyun on the menu
4) Tastes like what I had when I lived in Korea, not augmented for American tastes.
Unmissable food in DC?

What do I absolutely HAVE to eat in Washington, DC? I'm going to be in DC for about a week in late June. What foods there are not to be missed?

I like all kinds of ethnic foods, desserts, noodles, local specialties, really I will eat almost anything except most organ meats and insects. I'm not vegetarian or allergic to anything.

I will have a per diem for part of the time, so fancy isn't completely out, but I'm more interested in stuff that normal people eat.

For example, if you were coming to San Diego I would suggest you have the Cubana sandwich at the Crest Cafe, or the scones at Rebecca's, or the frozen yogurt at Yogurt World, or the okonomiyaki at Tajima...you get the picture.

I won't have a car, so it would need to be accessible by mass transit.

I'm hungry in Vancouver, help?

What are the best places to eat in Vancouver? I just recently moved here and am living a nomadic existence while I wait to settle into a longer-term place, so I'm eating out a fair bit. What places would you recommend to eat at?

I'm partial to East Asian cuisine, and would particularly like to know of good Japanese and Korean places, but I'd be interested in suggestions from any part of the world, cuisine-wise. I'd prefer stuff that's in the medium-range price-wise, if possible, but don't let that stop you from suggesting a really great high-end restaurant that I should try.

Give me your peanut butter recipes.

I love peanut butter, preferring creamy over chunky... but it doesn't really matter. I'm pretty sure I love peanut butter now as much as I ever did when I was a kid. What are some of your favorite ways to eat peanut butter and/or use it in other recipes? I've eaten peanut butter in just about every sandwich concoction I can think of... including PB&J of course, PB and mayo, PB and bologne (another kid thing), the Elvis, PB and applesauce. A friend puts it on a hamburger, although I've never tried it. I love creamy PB with a cored and quartered Gala apple. If something comes with a "peanut dipping sauce", then I want it.

Just after college, a friend of mine moved to Estonia for a year or so, to live with "distant" relatives. After a while he began to crave some food favorites from back in the states and had his mother mail him a small jar of peanut butter. The kids (younger cousins perhaps) that were living with him were curious, having never tasted peanut butter. They tried it and were completely repulsed... hated it. I just can't understand that.

What to serve guests

FoodFilter: I am hosting a small birthday party this Friday evening starting around 7pm, and my guests will expect some (dinner) food to be available. What can I serve them? (More Inside) I am looking for some food / snacks that are easy to make (buy) and will fill people up. All in a standing up / drinking beer environment, more buffet food than dining table. There will be around 15 people and two or three of three of them are vegetarian. This is not in the US so non-brand specific advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
