I want a simple mobile phone with a monochrome screen and a fast interface that can sync contacts with my Mac or PC via a cable or IR. Something like the Nokia 1110
but with the ability to sync!

The 17-year-old son of a friend from Austria is into hip-hop. He'll be visiting NYC on 7-10 December and wants to know how to find out about concerts, venues, etc.
Can anybody tell me the relevant websites to send him to?

My apologies in advance for furthering the stereotype. I'm a girl, I like video games, but I lean towards puzzles games & sims... & my skills suck.
My boyfriend is a video game collector & fairly avid player, as it is, his interest in types of games & his skill level are a fair bit different than my own. We recently got a PS3 & I'd like to expand the library by adding a few new games for myself (I'm looking for older stuff preferably: PS2 or even PS1 games). I like to play, but often have trouble finding games... so here I am turning to the MetaFilter Suggestion Engine. [more inside]

So I want to be battered with noise and I could use some recommendations. I have Metal Machine Music
and like it, but would be all for something more...melodic? I'm pretty sure I need some John Zorn and Mike Patton in the collection, but which albums? [more inside]

I am currently a visiting professor at a liberal arts college. Our department is conducting a search for a tenure track position which I intend to apply for. I need letters of recommendation which address my teaching abilities. The people most qualified to write these letters are my colleagues that are on the search committee. Is it appropriate or inappropriate to ask them to write letters of recommendation for this position?

An older family member coming to stay with us in the Princeton NJ area eats a turkey sandwich for lunch EVERY day.
Seeking recommendations for deli or grocery store that has actual fresh roasted turkey for sale (as opposed to deli-type pre-cooked turkey breast).
Will go pretty much anywhere in the Mercer County area if necessary. Thank you for any direction!

Can anyone recommend a good, reasonably priced lawyer with a experience with intellectual property agreements? Specifically software, but maybe that's not so critical. My usual sources aren't being that much help. Anywhere in the U.S. would be fine, Michigan would be best of all. [more inside]

Does anyone know of a research paper that states recommendations for a product/service/company are liked more? For example, if I recommend a book to a friend, they will end up liking it more. It seems to make sense to me, but I was hoping there was some research that confirmed this.

We've made a last minute decision to head to Florida over Christmas break. We'd like to stay somewhere in the panhandle region since it would be a fairly short drive for us (currently living in Alabama). Any recommendations for a particular beach/city? We'd like a place that's laid back, family oriented, and has nice clean sandy beaches to walk on and pick up shells. None of us cares for night life or shopping, but a good running/bike trail would be a plus.

Seeking recommendations for international shipping/moving companies. I have a small household's-worth to ship from California to the UK (no furniture that's worth keeping, but a large studio full of stuff). There are many companies online but I know from friends' experiences that these waters are shark-infested.
