I'm interested in exploring Robert C. Solomon's work on our human passions, love, etc., which was one major focus of his work. Since he was such a prolific author, I'm a bit overwhelmed by the choices available. Does anyone have works they recommend in particular? Thanks.

Help me be sad. Recommend to me depressing, sad, mournful fiction. Books that made you sad and a tad tearful. I just want to access these emotions and be taken away in good writing and wonderful characters. Any genre is acceptable except YA (unless you can prove it is real exceptional YA I suppose). Less cliched angst situations as well.

What is the best Mac personal finance software? I need recommendations from the Thoughtful on a personal finance software package for Macs that is actually worth the investment and the time taken to learn and use.
And yes, I know this has been asked at least a couple of times before, but the last related query I see is from 2008.

A very general question looking for your tastes. I like basic rock with awesome guitar licks/riffs where I can understand what the singer is singing (or at least has something melodic). I am open to any suggestions for bands post 2000, if not recent. I don't know what subcategories there are but am game for your input.

Your tall musical order: I'm looking for instrumental tracks. Less than four minutes. Must have three "acts" that build from a quiet open to a mid-tempo, mid-power second act. Third and final act must end in a jump-out-of-your-chair fist-pump
f*ck yeah moment (that may or may not taper away afterwards).

I'd like to try to read a fantasy or even a sci-fi epic. I really have no experience in either realm besides Lord of The Rings, one Dune book, the Ender Series, and Hitchhikers. All of which I enjoyed but especially LOTR. What would be a good series to start off? The epic is the key thing as I want some nice thick books that I won't read in a day. I'm leery of things with faeries in them. Or twee YA books.

I'm looking for podcast suggestions. The
Geologic Podcast is my current favorite podcast. While I do like the whole skepticism angle of it, what I really love is the sketches and anecdotes (particularly Not The Bible and the Ukrainian family stories). What other podcasts do this sort of variety-show silly voice sketch kind of material? I'm also open to audiobook suggestions (John Hodgman fulfills a similar thing, for example-- something about the topic jumping around-ness).

I'm looking for songs similar to "Intro" by the xx. The vocals on the rest of the album weren't my style, but I really like the ambient, building, (mostly) instrumental sound of that one track. Schiller has a lot of similar songs I like as well.
