RecipeFilter: My husband and I are hosting a family of four (two grown-ups, two kids) for a few days. What easy, quick things can we cook? One of the guests doesn't love cheese (a little is okay, but no mac-n-cheese type meals) and two are vegetarians; the kids are rumored to be easy eaters. We'll be touristing all day so will likely want something we can make fairly quickly before getting the kids in bed. We have a fairly small kitchen and oven, but are decent cooks and bakers. Please share your best recipes!

I bought 2 pounds (the smallest size I could find) of plain whole milk yogurt, not realizing that there was an almost-empty container in the fridge. So now I have all this yogurt with a best-by date of August 5. What are your favorite ways to use it? I'm especially interested in vegetarian main dishes (bonus points for using CSA-type veggies), but would also like ways to pair it with chicken or fish.
Due to being really busy at work, being sad about something in my personal life, and having just moved and not yet finished unpacking or making space for myself in the shared kitchen, I'm having a problem with food/having no appetite, and I can't (don't want to) cook much at the moment. Basically eating has become a giant chore and nothing seems good. To help get through the next week or couple of weeks, I would like your suggestions for the best tasting vegetarian convenience foods and super easy recipes that you know of. [more inside]
I love cooking, but it's been a while since I've cooked on a regular basis (besides throwing together ingredients for salads and pastas) and even longer since I put together a proper meal with courses. I'm a pretty decent cook (and I have a list of favorite blogs, like Smitten Kitchen and 101 Cookbooks) but nothing's clicking, and I want recipes that are complicated and fun and delicious for a change of pace! And so I turn to you, AskMetafilter: help me find awesome, vegetarian, delicious, adventurous dishes to usher in 2014. [more inside]

I need help finding some really easy, uncomplicated one-pot Thanksgiving recipes! I'll be hosting an orphan's potluck for 4-8 people at my place this year and I need to provide a couple dishes. So tell me how I can make the best Thanksgiving turkey and sides! Oh, this is anonymous because I am a vegetarian for moral reasons. Also, I prefer to limit it to just one type of animal, so no bacon wrapped shrimp. Probably no bacon wrapped shrimp. Recipes of good sides preferably not using just turkey.

Does anybody use whey protein powder to cook anything savory, especially any dinner dishes? I realize this is a longshot question, but web searches haven't turned up much of anything. I'm well aware that this opinion is not shared by everyone, but I really like Jamie Oliver's style of cooking (and, I confess, presentation on tv): simple ingredients (but the best you can get), big flavours, lots of fresh herbs, very informal. The thing is, he's not that big on vegetarian recipes, and I'm making an effort to *not* eat meat 3 or 4 times a week, so could you recommend a vegetarian Jamie Oliver please? Note: I googled this phrase and google came up with Simon Rimmer, but I was kind of underwhelmed.

My lunchtime staple is a bowl of black/kidney/pinto beans or lentils and brown/white rice, couscous, or quinoa with some type of vegetable mixed in. However, I get bored with the same sauces and seasonings (usually barbecue sauce, peanut sauce, salsa, or just plain with some onion and garlic) and am looking for new ideas. Must be vegetarian (dairy and eggs okay) and bonus points for *cheap* store bought sauces/dressings or homemade from ingredients I might already have in the pantry. I'm not a picky eater and am not concerned with fat/calories.
