I just bought a 5.1 home theatre system. The speakers are Klipsch; the receiver is a Yamaha RX-V363. I'm having some (read; a lot) setup problems that I'm hoping the hive mind could help me out with. Specifically, I'm having trouble getting sound out of my PS3 and a picture and sound out of my Wii. Hope me! [more inside]

I have a pair of stereo speakers that I want to use with my computer. My old receiver broke, so unless there's some way to hook stereo speakers directly up to a computer, I'll need a new one. I want to find an inexpensive receiver that can turn on automatically when it gets a signal. I don't want to have to walk over and turn it on every time I want to play an MP3 or have to remember to turn it off. (I think my old one broke because I'd just leave it on all the time.) The only other thing I'd use it for is playing DVD audio, so it should work with that as well. What's the best receiver to use for computer audio that will detect a signal and turn on by itself? Or should I just lose the stereo speakers and get a pair of computer speakers?

Can one use RCA cables (red/white/yellow) in component jacks (red/blue/green)? I understand that the jacks carry much different data/signal/whatever, but I was told that there is no need to buy (very) pricey component cables...you can actually just hook up good quality red/white/yellow RCA cables to the component jacks for the same purpose. Speaker/ReceiverFilter: I have a recently acquired NAD 7240PE receiver, and a pair of older but fairly decent (I think) floorstanding speakers. The input source is clean (its a CD player that has its own headphones jack, and that's clean), but I'm running into a problem with the speakers + receiver. [more inside]

What to do with a Receiver? Someone in my building left a decent Pioneer receiver near the dumpster, obviously hoping that someone would put it to good use. I believe I might be that person, but am not sure what to do with it. I've already got a reliable radio that I enjoy listening to, my record player has it's own pre-amp, and I don't feel a need to add surround sound to the TV (in part because it would mean buying a mess of speakers). But I'm betting someone out there in MeFi land has a clever and novel idea for how it might be employed. [more inside]
