I'm having a really hard time finding a reputable mortgage broker. The property is in Boston, MA, but I'm willing to work with someone in another state. The most important thing is that they're not slimy or condescending. Can you recommend someone in my area? Anyone to avoid?

My partner and I have saved a deposit of $50,000 to put down on a house. We're looking for a one bed flat around the Gastown area of Vancouver BC, which we may end up renting out while we move to the US for a couple of years for work, but I have no idea how to go about this.

What's the most dispassionate way to determine what a house is worth? Uncle owns a house and may sell it to us at a favorable rate, but we'd like to figure out a fair price to set overall, so that Uncle isn't shafted but we don't overpay, either.

I am buying a house and the roof is questionable. There were missing tabs all over. A roofer came out and did minimal repairs at the current owners' expense but he says the roof has "2 to 5 years" left, maybe, depending on weather (we live in the midwest).
Would it be reasonable to ask for a reroofing allowance in purchasing this house?

Condominium Outrage! Today, while taking a shower in my bathroom, i suddenly saw a reflection of a man in the vanity mirror - he was just outside the slightly open bathroom door. I screamed bloody murder while my heart beat out of my chest - i thought i was about to be the victim of a home invasion. Now, i want to do something about the apparent rule/bylaw/custom in my condo corporation/board that allows workers to enter the unit without the express permission of the owner or resident.

Tell me about cleaning up a toxic creek. In this case, something like the Newtown Creek in NY, now a Superfund site.

What is the process? Is it dredged? Dammed and drained? Dust, noise, time?
Please explain the engineering.
If the waste has seeped laterally, and it has, does that mean extensive excavation? What is the impact on the surrounding properties? What happens to property values, how do banks look at this, now and looking to the future?
Please explain from a Realtor's or developer's viewpoint.

YANML: I have an easement through my neighbor’s property. I use it regularly and the neighbor and I get along just fine. The other day the neighbor approached me about extinguishing the easement. While he didn’t offer me any money or anything, he was clearly lobbing the ball to me to come up with what I would want to release the easement to him. I’m located in Alameda County, California. More than you need to know after the break.

I need a lawyer in Toronto for Real Estate / Property issues. Specifically, the state of an adjacent property (in violation of multiple orders from the city) seriously affecting ours. Would ideally know the magic password to get the Building Standards people to do their job. Otherwise, any and all other avenues that can be pursued.

Perhaps a ridiculous question: is it possible in a major city (I'm in Toronto) to buy a small piece of land and build a tiny house (like the B-52 on

I have recently acquired a commercial property. I want to obtain a line of credit against the down payment I put on the property. Obviously, I have not done this in the past. But, I envision the transaction being similar to a home equity line of credit. Is there anyone out there that can point me to the right direction. FYI, the commercial property was acquired via a new LLC of which I own 100%.

I'm interested in stories about living in apartments where something bad has happened. Apartments with gnarly histories. Murders, suicides, 'haunted' apartments, whatever. Did it affect the value? Did you learn about it only later? Did you hire an exorcist? Did a new paint job suffice? etc. Anyone have such stories, or know of such?
