You-are-not-a-doctor-but-I-will-ask-anyway rash filter.

Does my boyfriend's daughter have a rash or an acne flare-up? Symptoms: Friday morning, a red splotchy rash on shoulders, upper chest. By Friday night and even more so on Saturday morning, rash still there but with addition of what look like tiny whitehead pimples - hundreds (maybe thousands) of them. No itching, just plenty of embarrassment. Help! [more inside]

Bash My Rash

YANAD or maybe your are. I have a mysterious rash / itchy thing going on. Add in that my wife is due with our second child in five days. Two nights ago I woke up several times during the night scratching my pubic area. That morning I put some hydrocortizone on it and thought that was that. Since then, I have been itching all over in random spots. [more inside]

What bit me?

The other day, I developed 3 itchy red marks (they look like bug bites) on my elbow. They're in a triangle formation, and everything I look up online indicates that they could be bed bugs. However, I got them while I was sitting at my desk at work, 6 hours after I'd left my house, and wearing a long-sleeved shirt. Is there anything else that would cause marks like these? [more inside]

Found the "bullseye", now what?

After a week of what was diagnosed as some form of Viral Syndrome Meningitis, I just found a big target-shaped rash on the back of my leg. Looks just like the pictures. This started on Sunday of Labor Day weekend after camping. Now that I'm pretty sure it's Lyme Disease what should I ask for and do first? I'm about 10 days into the infection. [more inside]

Allergic To My Own Sweat?

Can I be allergic to my own sweat? The past couple summers I've developed itchy rashes on my neck, forehead and inside my elbows. I saw a dermatologist in January when, naturally, I had no symptoms. He actually implied that I was imagining this rash (!) and offered no remedies. Recently a biologist friend suggested I might be allergic to my own perspiration, and I'm increasingly feeling that the evidence supports this. Can this be true?

Andropause or hypochondria?

I am about to turn 40, and the last couple years have not been great for me physically, so if this is middle-age, then I don't want it. In my case, the problem is dry skin, which has plagued me more or less all my life, but looking back, it seems like in former decades it was a relatively minor annoyance compared to the scourge it has become. Sometimes I go into an itching frenzy. Not good at night when I'm trying to sleep or when out in public. [more inside]

baby straight jackets?

Our itchy baby can only sleep if we swaddle her securely. By securely, I mean we have to wrap her quite snuggly, safety-pinning the stretchy cloth to prevent her from wriggling out and scratching herself awake. It took some trial-and-error to find a wrapping method that could contain her. Can snug swaddling harm babies orthopedically? [more inside]
