Gift for pregnant rail commuter

Someone I know is pregnant and I'd like to give her a gift. She does a more than hour long rail commute every day and I was hoping to get her something to make this commute easier on her in the coming months. This is the same person who gave me a good pair of headphones when I had a 3.5 hour commute a few years ago and I'd love to give her something that makes her commute better in the same way those headphones made mine better. What to do with friends during Seatac lay over?

We are relatively new to Seattle and have some friends who have a five hour layover coming in tomorrow afternoon. We do not have enough room in the car to carry them all, so they (1 father, 2 sons - ages 3 & 5) will jump on the light rail and meet us somewhere. Where would be a good, child-friendly place to meet along the light rail route to hang out for a few hours on what will likely be a rainy afternoon?

Help me plan my trip to France!

I’m currently based in Andalucía, Spain, teaching English for the school year, and am planning to visit neighboring France during Christmas vacation. France fascinates me and will be the first country I visit outside of Spain during my time in Europe, but to be honest: I know nothing. I have approximately 13 days to spend in the country, I would like to see Paris and a few other sites in the northwest, and I will probably enter the country on the Mediterranean coast (from Spain) and leave via the Basque Country (to return to Spain). What should I see? [more inside]

Ticketing/reservation help for a Euro-rail novice

This summer I'm taking a trip to Europe that includes taking a train from Krakow to Hamburg (with a connection in Berlin) and then Kiel to Prague (also connecting in Berlin). Just booked the tickets online through bahn.de, but for the first stretch of the trip (Krakow to Berlin) it could not book me a reservation. What do I do now? The train is a Euro City (EC), so I'm pretty sure I need a reservation. Or do I? I'm used to taking Amtrak, so of course I have to plead ignorance on this. Please help a Euro-rail novice!

What is the mysterious fourth rail for?

I'm relatively new to New York and ride the subway every day. When I'm on the above-ground lines I notice another "fourth" rail in between the two running rails that doesn't look like it is used, but is securely tied down. Sometimes there's even a fifth rail, also in the middle. Usually this rail doesn't run continuously and it occasionally curves or has other oddities. What is this fourth rail for? [more inside]
