There's something special about listening to a baseball game on the radio, and even though I'm not a huge baseball fan, I'd like to start listening to more games. Since I don't have any particular geographic preference (having lived all over the US), I'm free to choose any team in the east; I live in the mid-Atlantic area but can regularly pull in stations from Chicago, St. Louis, New York, Atlanta, etc. So, which baseball announcer is the best? I recently inherited a 1940s era communications receiver from the estate of my great-uncle. It is a Hallicrafters S-39 Sky Ranger, and I want to restore it so it can be used safely again. I was able to find the manual that originally came with it on BAMA (The Boat Anchor Manual Archive), but it was also used by the US Military during WWII, and there is a govt service manual for it. It was an R80 to the military, and the manual is PB48233, but that is as far as I have been able to get. How do I locate someplace that has a copy of this technical manual so I can get a copy made from it?

Would it be a good idea to write to a band via myspace to ask for permission to use their music in my student audio project? The project (if it's good) could end up on the school's audio website. If it's really good (and I can't say yet that it will be), it's possible I'd want to pitch it to radio programs. [more inside]

Using your smartphone, can you listen to online live radio while walking around your city? I'm trying to do this (with my iPhone, in Paris) and it only works if I stay in one place; if I move more than about 500m, it usually disconnects. I'm curious to know if others have the same experience so that I can determine if it's my carrier, the phone, the city, or just general limitations of 3G GSM networks. (Note: I'm not talking about Pandora or Spotify; I'm referring specifically to live radio streams which can't buffer minutes ahead). [more inside]

Where did I hear a humorous story of someone playing a song over and over and over on a jukebox? [more inside]
Last year or so, I listened to a radio show on NPR that aired. The basic premise of the show (I think) was very similar to This American Life and was an eclectic mix of interviews of regular old folks, to talking about issues related to living life in general. One of the episodes dealt with two sisters who had run away and they told their story through a series of vignettes about their experiences. Another episode (I think) was an interview of siblings who are gay. The show was only about an hour long each week, but ended up being cancelled due to $$ issues (it's not News & Notes or Day to Day, I've already checked). I'm trying to figure out what the show was!! Any ideas? It was a very grassroots-ey type, low-budget, etc. Thanks MeFi!
