I live in Charlotte, NC. A friend and I were discussing how we'd like to go to a horse race and make some bets. We don't even know where to begin on that. We were thinking we could drive to Kentucky. I know of the big tracks out there like Churchill Downs but does horse racing have a minor league? Are there tracks with a lower profiles where betting happens but you don't have to own a yacht to attend?
I'm trying to get all the 1997 Formula Star Mazda's races which were covered on ESPN2. My brother had started a race team that year. While his driver, Tony Buffomante, was winning pretty much every race, he (my brother) suffered a traumatic brain injury and had a many months recovery. Someone made him a DVD of all the coverage which he has now lost. I understand (and he does) that it was his fault for not backing it up apparently, but he's looking for help getting a new one even if ESPN or whomever charges a lot for it. I have no idea where to look.... Thank you! -William
I remember a PC racing game with winding up and down road, with a Japanese island landscape (amongst other themes). You would be racing with a car or some flying thing, racing against computer players, maybe with some simple weapons to eradicate opponents. Roads would surprisingly split up and you would need to decide which alternative to follow. Era is probably DOS, 256 or 16M colors. Good music included (which is what gave me the flashback). Thanks heaps.

I'm writing a story about the Newport Bermuda Race, and having trouble with one detail in particular: I know that there's a total elapsed time for the race, and then a corrected time which determines the actual winner in each class/division, but I don't know when a crew would be informed of their corrected time or of where they placed in their division. I thought it might be fun to race around like giddy kids with my wife for her birthday. she loves Formula one and has expressed an interest in racing go-karts. We both can drive but do not own a car as we live in brooklyn and have no need. Any ideas on where to race go-karts near nyc? (I found this place: gpny.com, and it seems to fit the bill..but are there other options?) Anyone else had any similar experiences trying to find place to race? Extravagant test-drive a real car on a track option? f1 model kit? (thank you as always) -birthday panic!!

Who goes to harness racing (a.k.a. horse buggies, trotters), and why? A friend compared it to speed walking, lots of activity but still pretty darned slow. Is it simply something else to bet on or is there something wonderful or at least interesting about the sport that I'm missing? [more inside]

Tomorrow, Zenyatta will attempt to win her 20th and final race at Churchill Downs. I am not a gambler, but would like to place some bets to make watching the race more fun. Of course, I wouldn't mind winning some money, too. I'm hoping someone here can give me some strategy tips based on these odds. A friend has suggested placing 12 exacta bets on Zenyatta to win and each of the others to place. The assumption I'm making is that she will indeed win.
