Amateur runner here. I have a friend that I ran a 5k with recently. Even though I train waaaaay more than he does, he whooped me by quite a bit. He's definitely more athletically gifted than me, but I would like to show him up in at least one race for various reasons. Mefite Runners/competitive racers: What can I do in the meantime before the next race regarding training/mindset/etc. so I can put him in his place at least once? Details inside. [more inside]
My wife has organized a 5k as a fundraiser for her school. The event website lists it as the "First Annual" race. She got a nitpicky email chastising her her about it, complaining that it should be the "Inaugural" race. What do you think, and how should she respond? [more inside]
I manage a small non-profit in New Jersey, and are looking for someone to manage a 5K race for us next year. I am looking for: 1) about how much this would cost us; and 2) for any suggestions of businesses that do this kind of work in the area. Thanks!
I just signed up for a 5K on Dec. 3. I'm certainly not ready to RUN 3.1 miles, so I'm going to walk it (and the event is called a run/walk, so it is a walker-friendly race, at least). What kind of training can I do before then to do my best that day, since there's barely any time left? I'm at a healthy weight and in OK shape but usually only exercise one or two times a week. I'd like my time to be under one hour, if possible. Tips? (Bonus question: are most 5Ks walker-friendly?)
How can I make being a course marshall for a 5K run fun, entertaining and/or motivating? [more inside]
I will be jogging in my first 5K race in a week and a half. What can I do in the upcoming days to ensure I don't crash and burn? [more inside]
