Should I tell my friend her comments about my hair were offensive?

i'm really really really really really tired of being a black woman in America and dealing with ridiculous comments people make when I do something as simple as wear my hair the way nature designed it. Most of the time I'm happy with who I am, but simply being myself is like death by a thousand cuts and there are some days when things really add up and they get to me. [more inside]

Asperger's and Race

My elementary school student is on the autism spectrum, high functioning. He has just "noticed" different skin colors (and his school has just done Black History Month), so it's on top of his mind. We are a different race from the vast majority of his schoolmates, so it's particularly interesting to him. He does not pick up on social cues. We're having a problem with how he talks about race (this is in the USA). We need some resources for parents of autistic children in addressing this issue. [more inside]

Does SFG southpaw Madison Bumgarner ever lose his cool with Caucasian players?

San Francisco Giants star pitcher Madison Bumgarner has won many accolades for his clutch performances. He's also had many notable run-ins with opposing players. Here's one list of conflicts he's had, including today's bench-clearing dustup with the Texas Rangers. As a close follower of the National League West, I've noticed that I've never seen him lose his cool at a non-Hispanic or non-black player. Has he shouted at or admonished a non-Hispanic white player at any point of his Major League career? I'd be delighted if someone could find an instance in which he has done so.

10K Tips

Doing my first 10K this Sunday. Feeling nervous. Main goal is to finish the race and enjoy it as much as I can. Candid conversations about black-white relations in the US

As a white foreigner who spends much of his time on a college campus where black people are few and far between, I feel like there's a lot I don't understand about black-white relations in the US. I know my history and understand the social and political issues involved reasonably well, but what I'm missing is a sense of how these things play out in the everyday lives of ordinary people. I'd like to hear conversations and stories, in podcast form or the like, that touch on this stuff. The more candid, informal, personal, and no-holds-barred, the better. [more inside]

White boy from the ghetto wants to cover Tupac

During my preteen and teen years, our family was impoverished. This was in the early to mid 90s. Throughout this time, I found solace in Tupac's music, which was both wholly understandable and mournfully, beautifully realistic. Now I'm a musician in my mid 30s. I want to cover some Tupac songs out of respect, as they were a big inspiration to me, but I don't want to offend anyone. As a white guy, can I do this inoffensively? If so, how? (For the uninitiated: his lyrical patter depends heavily on the n-word, which I am (and always have been) reluctant to use.)

PC racing game with beautiful Japanese island landscape

I remember a PC racing game with winding up and down road, with a Japanese island landscape (amongst other themes). You would be racing with a car or some flying thing, racing against computer players, maybe with some simple weapons to eradicate opponents. Roads would surprisingly split up and you would need to decide which alternative to follow. Era is probably DOS, 256 or 16M colors. Good music included (which is what gave me the flashback). Thanks heaps.
