I'm not a pheasant plucker

My rabbit supplier was only able to provide 2 rabbits instead of the 4 I needed, so gave me a deal on 2 pheasant to go with them. I need advice on (1) plucking and (2) cooking pheasant, with or without the rabbits. I have to feed 9 people on the 27th to give relief from turkey, I was going to do a hearty rabbit stew, alas the 2 rabbits won't stretch to 9. Would it be possible to do something which combines the 2 pheasant and the 2 rabbits in one dish or should I cook them separately? Do you have any recipes or ideas for how they might go together?

The pheasants are still feathered, with beaks and all internal organs - any tips on getting them from that state to ready for the pot? I.e. on plucking, butchery, and general preparation for cooking.

My very local farmer's market has started to sell cheap rabbits. Please recommend your most delicious recipes. They come skinned put in one piece. I welcome all suggestions but would be particularly delighted to see recipes outside the casserole and stew paradigm.

Unidentified Bun Alert

I need help identifying the breed of my rabbit! This is Kyo. One ear sticks up, the other lays against her head. She's a bit smaller than my 2 yr old American short hair cat. Only other striking feature is a roll of fat under her neck. I adopted her about 2 years ago from my brother. At the time, he said she was a 'Lion's Mane' rabbit, but I can't find that particular breed anywhere on the internet and she's definitely not a Lion's Head. He can't remember where he got her originally.

Those pictures were taken when he still had her, so she's about twice that size but otherwise the same. The fat roll is more defined now. Her body is long and muscular, but fairly slim. Other than being absurdly adorable, I know nothing about her breed. She's getting up in years and, while she's stayed healthy so far, I want to be aware of any troubles that may come later. So, any ideas?

Rabbit meat in NYC?

Where can I buy rabbit (for eating, not petting) in NYC? I've been calling around but haven't had any luck so far. I'll carve it up if I have to, but boned would be best. And it's for tonight, so anything involving special-ordering is sadly a no-go.
how do I utilize my have-a-heart trap to get the bunnies out of my garden? Despite applications of rodent spray and hot sauce, the bunny in my yard is chowing down on my lettuce and peas. I have a trap, but so far when I've set it out the little stinker has totally ignored it. I tried celery leaves and carrot tops for bait. Has anyone successfully trapped one of these guys? any advice on trap placement and bait? I promise I won't hurt him/her, I'm just going to implement a Maoist-style relocation program.

Am I supposed to like Rabbit Angstrom?

Am I supposed to like Rabbit Angstrom in Rabbit, Run? There's plenty of reasons not to, but is the reader meant to dislike Rabbit or like him in spite of it all? I ask because I spent most of the novel disliking him, and it wound up affecting my opinion of the book itself. Not because I think a main character has to be likable, but because it read like Updike intended him to be. Did he? Do people who enjoy Rabbit, Run and the rest of the series tend to like the character?

Can You Identify This Rabbit?

What kind of rabbit is this? I am wondering if anyone can identify the breed of this rabbit from photos posted online (it's my rabbit) - I've looked through rabbit books and websites, but so far, haven't had an "ah-hah" experience.

Help an ailing bunny rabbit & his owner.

Can you help me keep my bunny fed? He has head tilt and has trouble getting food. Head tilt is just what it says - instead of a normal position, his head is turned so it is at an angle to the floor. He isn't in pain but is really disoriented. The Vet has him on antibiotics and there is a plan B in place if that treatment doesn't work, but this never clears up quickly.

The li'l guy really hates being fed by hand, he wants to nibble & chew on his schedule like he used to. But how? We need the food to sit at a proper angle in order for him to reach it and once he grabs the food it begins to move out of position.

We feed him lettuce, carrots and he has access to pellets (really hard for him to get at) and blocks of pressed timothy hay which he eats as he can. I'm going to throw in parsley as a treat, as well as other assorted green things to keep him interested in his food. We also try to get some pineapple in him now and then (good for digestion).

What I'm hoping for is some engineering options that will help keep food at the proper angle. So far we've come up with skewering food (not easy with lettuce in terms of keeping it standing up) and hanging carrots (then they move around).

His head is tilted to the left as you're facing him - it's a pretty severe angle, I'd say if normal position has his mouth at 90 degrees to the floor, right now it is at 150-160 degrees.

Any feats of engineering marvel you can think of? I will try anything I can make out of untreated wood, cardboard and hempish-string types of things. Untreated wickers are fine too, I just need to avoid rubber & plastics (don't want bunny chewing toxins).

Help me find an old rabbit-related PC game!

The details are sketchy, but I remember playing a fantastic platformer in which the player controlled a rabbit. Before you say it, I'm pretty damned confident it wasn't from the Jazz Jackrabbit series, nor was it Toxic Bunny. As I said I don't remember much about it, but hopefully something will trigger someone's memory. I'm guessing it's between 5 to 13 years old. There were colourful levels, and odd powerups; one flipped the entire game world vertically or horizontally. Just trying to remember other features feels like trying to remember a dream; the more I try, the less I can think of, but please, please any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My rabbit likes cat food.

I think my rabbit occasionally eats my cat's crunchy food. Is this bad? The cat food sits in a bowl on the floor in the room where we let the bunny roam. A few times I've walked into the room to see the bunny sitting and facing the cat food bowl - so I think she sometimes eats it, but probably not a lot. Is this bad for her? I don't particularly want to move the cat's food bowl, but I will if I need to.

Also, if the bunny is eating the cat food, does that mean I'm not feeding the bunny enough?

Is this an emergency?

Is this an emergency? Not peeing or pooping, sitting funny, grunting, looking really uncomfortable: is my rabbit ok until tomorrow or should I pay the extra $200 for an emergency appointment? My rabbit, Iggy Pop, has chronic bum problems. We have to give him daily bum baths or else his pee scalds his genital area. He has had the beginnings of necrosis in the past. We've been doing this for a couple of months now, but a new problem has cropped up in the past couple of days and is really scaring us.

Iggy has not peed or pooped in his litter box or cage for about three days now. He peed on me once when we gave him his bum bath, but we've seen no signs that he's been going anywhere else in the house. Instead, he spends all day in his litter box, grunting and shifting restlessly. He lies down, only to get up and try to pee again after only a few minutes. To me it looks like he either has a UTI or crystals.

We want to take him to a vet, but since this is a Sunday, and we live in a small town, our only options are to 1) wait until tomorrow or 2) pay an extra $200 to get him an emergency visit. $200 is a lot of money for us, we will have to borrow it from a friend. Still, if it's what needs to be done, we'll do it. We just don't know if it needs to be done. Please help me decide if this is an emergency or not.

Hot rabbit recipe

A chilli rabbit recipe from a 'Hemphills Herbs and Spices' book. I once had a recipe book that was essentially a promotional tool for 'Hemphills Herbs and Spices' (an Australian herb and spice purveyor, natch). A4 size, paperback, and (from memory) had a picture of Ian and his mother, Rosemary, standing in front of hedge with an armful of herbs - it was a very green picture. It had a recipe for cooking rabbit with the main ingredients being chilli*, garlic and tomato. The recipe I'm seeking DOES NOT CONTAIN BEANS. Does anyone have this book and is willing to share the recipe? Or, if not this exact recipe, one that DOES NOT CONTAIN BEANS but has chilli, garlic and tomato as the main ingredients.
*I fear my search has been severely hampered by the variants in the spelling of chilli, chili and chile.

Will I give my new bunny the flu? Sorry if this is basic science, but I just can't find anything through google...
Tomorrow I am bringing home a sweet little baby bunny to join the family! Yay! However, I have also been meaning for some time to get a flu shot, and I think I should do that this week as well. (I am young, but have a weak immune system, so its important that I get one.) I know that the inactive/dead vaccine is generally available and I will get that if possible, but my concern remains that I will get my new bunny sick.
Is this possible? Can influenza be transmitted from human to rabbit -- even if it is a "dead" vaccine?

Fantasy Books with Anthropomorphic Rabbits?

I can't remember this 70's/80's fantasy book series! It's driving me nuts. I've been searching google and amazon for about two hours and I keep hitting dead ends. The details I remember:

The main character was a stoner type who got dragged into a fantasy world.
A female he went to school with followed him.
His magic was music-based.
He and the female were the only humans, all the other characters were anthropomorphic rabbits and foxes and other animals.
One of the main animal characters was a rabbit.
There was a large salamander that was a communist.
A strip club featuring a stripping mink (i think)

I am pretty sure I'm not thinking of Discworld. I got the paperback versions of the books from a library sale, the covers looked like typical Tor fantasy novels from that time period.

Giant Rabbits? I'm driving myself mad trying to remember a sci-fi book I read as a young'un, but the details are sparse. It could have been a series (or I could be hopelessly conflating two books).
It was a far future setting, and the location of earth has been lost. The protagonist eventually figures out a crystal studded bowl is actually a map of the stars that overlaps with known space, and uses this to find the location of earth.

The other detail I can remember is a planet of giant rabbits(maybe) that we either black or white, and they lived by the motto something along the lines of 'For the good of the many', the kicker being they interpreted this to mean that the civilisation should be geared towards the colour of the slight majority. Please help!

Can a chipmunk and a rabbit coexist?

I've got a domesticated rabbit in a fairly large cage in our home. She's very easygoing. A friend is moving and looking to give away a domesticated chipmunk. Do you think the two of them could live together in one place, or are the species incompatible?

where can I buy a rabbit outside Boston?

Where can I buy a pet rabbit near Newton, MA? I can't believe I have to come here to find out. We decided that we want a new pet rabbit yesterday. My local Petco is one of two in the state that sells rabbits, but they only have those ridiculous tiny ones with even tinier ears and we want a full-sized rabbit with normal ears.

I don't want to adopt someone else's rabbit. I want to purchase a rabbit.

I've contacted a few people via Craigslist ads, but they've not responded to the emails that I sent last night and I'm tired of waiting for them. So there must be places I can go locally to hand someone money and walk away with a rabbit-- besides that smelly, cramped place on Harvard Ave in Allston. I'm having no luck finding anything via google.

What is this art thing going on in lower Manhattan?

What is happening in Foley Square, Manhattan (the asphalt "park" near the courthouses)? First, there were lots of small brightly-colored rabbits. Then they were gone and there was an enormous pink rabbit. Then that was gone, and there was something described by a friend as "a Grimace head emerging from the underworld." And there is filming.

Can anyone identify this project?

Will eating paper hurt a bunny?

Is it dangerous for my pet bunny to eat paper? I have a two/two-and-a-half year-old male lop-eared rabbit, Bob. I line his cage with newspaper and bedding (carefresh or whatever is on sale that is similar). He likes to tear up the newspaper and generally make a mess. The other day, we were out of paper so I lined his cage with some used paper (regular 8 1/2 x 11 office paper). When I came home yesterday, he had a piece in his mouth. At first I thought he was just tearing it, but then I noticed he wasn't standing on the other end. He methodically ate the entire piece of paper. I've never seen him do this before.

Can eating paper hurt him? Is it a sign of some sort of dietary deficiency? Is it because I forgot to buy hay this week? (He usually gets about equal amounts hay and fresh vegetables. We don't feed our bunnies pellets on the advice of their vet.)
