Should I keep my resignation secret?

I sent my resignation a few days ago after several years in the company. Historically people either disappeared without a word if fired or they were requested to keep their resignation secret and announced their resignation in the very last day. I found it to be extremely uncomfortable doing that. [more inside]

How do I tell my boss I'm NOT going to grad school?

For miscellaneous reasons I no longer wish to go. How do I tell my boss? Do I tell? I am more than happy to continue my professional development (as such)... just less intensively and more cheaply! In fact, I'd happily work through a Diploma (we're in Australia) either in a very related topic (ethics, politics, legal) or the original field. [more inside]

I need a time machine

A little more than a month ago, I started a full-time telecommuting job that I thought was my dream job. When I took it, I was working part-time (and had been since my son was born two years ago). This is my first full-time job since becoming a mom. I now think I made a big mistake. [more inside]

Quit or stay

Another Ph.D quit-or-stay question: I'm really unhappy in my particular lab, and maybe unhappy with the whole idea of the Ph.D. I still like the idea of research - just want to work on a project that I'm interested in. What is the best way for me to be able to work on things that I like, possibly outside of a Ph.D degree program, but still in an academic lab? Looong snowflake details inside, summary at end. Do I stay (for a little bit) or do I go?

I really dislike my current job. I have a job offer from a company that would love to have me and is willing to accommodate all timing logistics. However, I still feel guilty about quitting my current job, for a myriad of reasons. Give me permission to quit. [more inside]

Quiting by Email

I need to resign my job sometime on monday - I'm taking a position at another company. Through contracts and sub-contracts, I have at least 3 different "bosses" who work at three locations - I only sit at the same location as one boss (one of the others is fairly accessible). Is submitting a resignation by email to the off-site bosses acceptable to mainstream north american business etiquette? [more inside]

It's only 3 more weeks of my life - but what if I get hit by a bus? I want to enjoy myself but am trying to be sensible

I am 3 weeks away from finishing my first on-campus semester of university. After much though, last week I decided that I will definitely not be continuing my studies - and now I am struggling to motivate myself to finish the semester. How can I get motivated? Or should I just not bother (secretly want to hear this but know it's not sensible, and I should at least try to pass so as not to burn bridges) [more inside]

Graduate school is hell; what is a job an ex-grad-student can possibly get?

Help me out here -- who will hire grad-school dropouts to work for them after they have royally screwed over their chances of having an academic career, what are they likely to pay said grad-school dropouts, and how do I convince them that they want to hire me against their better judgement?
