My parents are celebrating their 10th anniversary in Quebec City. They are staying in Sainte-Foy, on Hochelaga Blvd. I want to get them a gift certificate for a nice but not too fancy restaurant; nice enough so it's special, but not over-the-top, five-star nice. I want $200 to cover it. Thoughts? Thanks!

Revenue Quebec Filter: I mailed my taxes to Revenue Quebec somewhere around the 3rd or 4th of May. That's slightly late, but it's OK because they owe me money. I even sent it express post so it wouldn't get lost. Two months later, I've received no cheque, no direct deposit, no notice of assessment--nothing. [more inside]

Question for Montrealers! In the past few years I have noticed that some stores display a sticker on their front door that features a tree and roots and (sometimes) the words "La famille". It has a white field and the tree is cartoon-ey, green and brown. The caption is written in some kind of cursive font. [more inside]

What do you think is fun in Quebec City? My wife and I are going to Quebec City for the long weekend. Any recommendations on what to see and do? We like street markets specifically but we're up for anything, especially touristy stuff. We're staying in the city center but we'll have a car. Neither of us has been there in at least 10 years.

I'm on honeymoon in Quebec right now, and my new wife really wants to see a beaver in the wild. What's a good place to see some (either on our own, or ideally, with a guide) in areas that I'll be in? CanadaFilter. Please help educate this Canadaphile from south of the border. Martin, Chretien, Mulroney, and Trudeau all rose to political prominence from ridings in Quebec. What accounts for the lack of geographic diversity among recent occupants of Canada's top post? And why Quebec? I would think that the prominence of the sovereignist BQ and the relative cultural isolation of Montreal from the Anglophone cities would make it unlikely that mainstream Liberal and Tory politicians would thrive.

My girlfriend is planning on transferring to a university on the east coast next semester (Ontario or Quebec with preference for Quebec). She has little experience with French so anglophone universities are a necessity. Currently attending a university in British Columbia (the name escapes me), she has a 3.4 gpa and hopes to bring that up to between 3.5 and 3.7 by the end of this semester. What are good schools? Safety schools? [In Quebec] How difficult will it be to locate part-time employment without speaking much, if any, French?

[She's undecided on a major so ideally the school would have a good sciences or liberal arts program] [more inside]
