I got what I wanted but the doctor is a quack and I don't trust him. Help?

The doctor I just saw is a quack. I knew he would be, but I set up an appointment anyway. I've been dealing with fatigue and chronic pain, and regular doctors haven't had an answer. So I set up an appointment with a doctor that practices "functional medicine" as a last ditch effort. How do I reconcile what this doctor told me with what I know about real medicine and the load of bullshit I was just fed? [more inside]

Quack-talking?

In his recent kids-these-days piece, Clark Whelton says "Even nasal passages are affected by fashion. Quack-talking, the rasping tones preferred by many young women today, used to be considered a misfortune." Do you get what he's talking about, and can you point me to an audio example?

Reporting a quack

My Mom's chiropractor is using a device, the Toftness Radiation Detector (more here), that was outlawed by the FDA in 1984 as totally useless. If I decide to report him to the state, what agency would be appropriate? Or should I go straight to the FDA? Moreover, if my Mom swears he's helping her despite his quackery, should I even bother reporting him at all? [more inside]

International Animal Sounds

International animal sounds : In English, dogs go 'woof', cats go 'meow' and ducks go 'quack'. Does anyone know what noises they make in other languages (or maybe other countries)? [I don't mean to limit this to those three, it just seemed like a good selection to show what I meant...]
