Recommendations for an easy, customizable Python Parser for NLP?

There are loads of options (too many!), but I can't figure out if there is a basic parser that I could use and tweak a bit, or which might be the most straight-forward to create a new parser for a language variety without one. Any ideas for someone with limited skill would be awesome at this point. [more inside]

beginner book on python

I have done some java but I am still a novice programmer and would need to start from a beginner's level. Could anyone please give recommendations for suitable good books. I will also try the official python tutorial as well, but I don't find online resources on their own to be as good as having a book to supplement helpful online materials.

Database application freelancer seeking programming language advice

This is why I believe Access and FileMaker are not an option, I'm also more experienced with high level languages than I am with Access or FileMaker. [more inside]
