How should I adjust a cake recipe to make it in a glass or pyrex pan rather than metal pan? [more inside]

I recently picked up two old stainless steel milk kettles (about 4 or 5 gallons each) and a 5 gallon pyrex glass jug. I don't know why I bought them since I don't know what I want to do with them, but for less than $10 for the lot, I couldn't pass them up. Any ideas? [more inside]

I just had a Pyrex dish explode in my oven. (It happens, apparently.) I’ve removed all the pieces I can see, but undoubtedly there are shards that fell into cracks below.
Is it okay to use the oven with those remnants in there?
I don’t think I’ll be able to lift the oven over my head and shake it until everything falls out, so if it’s not okay to leave those shards in there, what can I do short of buying a new oven?

For a jack of all trades bakeware, what is the best material? Ceramic, Metal (aluminium), Glass (Pyrex), or Silicone?
