How to stop a puppy peeing indoors?

We've had our eight-week-old Labrador for a few days and he's developed a bad habit: he won't pee while we're outside in the garden (sometimes for over an hour) but the moment he comes in he goes to one part of the kitchen and pees there. How can we make him realise that he's got it the wrong way around? [more inside]

Rehoming a dog and different attitudes on pet ownership

Some family members have a dog that they can no longer care for. Their lives have gone through a lot of upheaval in the last year. At some point I guess getting a puppy seemed like a good idea? Well it wasn't and now they have an approximately 9 month old dog that is not trained, he barks a lot, and is basically chewing everything and anything including the walls. He is medium sized maybe 40 lbs. A poodle pomeranian shih zsu mix. But kind of looks like an all white lab. I don't know much about dogs. [more inside]

This puppy has everything she needs, except a name.

We just adopted this 8 month old female Pekingese from a shelter in the midwest. We started out working through Buffy-verse names, and got excited about Fred, which we long-formed first to Winifred, then decided that sounded like a middle name and tried to think of a very generic first name, like Lady. We ended up with Lady Winifred and we call her Fred, but the grandparents object, and we're open to choosing something different, since we chose it before meeting her. [more inside]

Help with new rescue dog's severe separation anxiety

We recently adopted an incredibly sweet dog from a local shelter-- Frances is a three year old dachshund/chihuahua mix. She's super mellow and calm when we're with her-- never barks or chews, perfectly housetrained, doesn't react to other dogs or people when on walks... basically perfect and incredibly lovable... EXCEPT... when left alone, she becomes a nightmare destructo-dog. [more inside]

How to un-crate-train a puppy

~1 year old Labradoodle name of Twist. Good boy. Crate trained up to this point, house trained so long as we lock him in his crate overnight. Which is the issue. I'd like to start weaning him off of the crate. He seems ready, he has no trouble holding it all night in the crate and it's not like he's rushing for the door in the morning; he'll happily romp around the house while we're getting breakfast etc together. But when I've tried leaving the crate door open overnight he, well, chooses not to wait until morning. Looking for strategies to let him know that that's not okay. [more inside]

Puppy Potty Training App

Husband has android phone and I have an iphone. We have a new puppy. We need an APP that will let us sync between us a log of when our pup goes potty (and other puppy things if available) since he leaves for work at 3 and crates our pup, and I come home at 5 and take over for our pup. I cant find it, but there has got to be an app that will easily let us track all things puppy related and share it between the two of us. Maybe not even an app made for dogs? Thanks!

Our puppy arrives tomorrow! Help.

We have been planning on bringing a Bull Terrier puppy into our lives for a year. Well tomorrow is his arrival date and I'm stressed. We live in a townhouse with a fenced yard. No kids. Our work schedules will allow somebody to be home at least every 5 hours. I have only owned puppies when I had my parents to take on most of the responsibility. I have the crate, leash, collar, bowls, two types of food and some toys. Now what? What advice can you give to a new puppy owner? I felt like I did all the research, but now I feel lost. How have you raised your puppy so he is a joy and not a terror? What three things do you wish you had known when you brought your puppy home?

Help me identify my new pup

My husband and I adopted a shelter dog last week, who we absolutely adore. When we were looking at her I asked one of the workers if they knew what kind of dog she was and they said no....just a mutt. My curiosity is getting the best of me though, and I would like to see if anyone might have some insight into what kind of breeds she might be. Pictures are here 3 photos included and she is the bigger dog in photo 1. She's about 2 years old so I'm assuming she's fully grown, also slightly under weight. As for her height, her head is about hip height (I'm 5'5"). So please someone satisfy my curiosity about our newest baby and tell me what kind of pup could she be?
