Experience with Sprint / Nextel MiFi?

Experience with Sprint / Nextel MiFi? Moving into an area of Seattle with a cable/Internet provider with a poor reputation and performance. My wife and I are considering the MiFi 2200. We both work from home and I wanted to ask the MeFi-ers first to see if anyone has had any experience with this device/service.

We need something that can handle everything from running reports through VPNs, to watching videos, to downloading large files. What should we need to know (or be concerned) about? How does it compare to a top-of-the-line high-speed broadband service?

I'm moving to Beacon Hill in Seattle -- need assistance getting adjusted. Been living in Queen Anne for my 3 years in Seattle. I'll be about 2 blocks south of Amazon's building. Quite the different neighborhood.

Looking for insight and suggestions from others who've made the transition into this neighborhood that everyone keeps claiming is the "next big thing!". I'm not quite convinced, though my rent is $650 less, and I've tripled in rooms and storage.

- Who are the cable/Internet options in the area? (Your reviews of said service.)
- Bars/restaurant suggestions.
- General "things you should know" before moving to Beacon Hill.

I just want Pu get some Sound advice.

Where (literally) on Puget Sound should my wife teach me how to sail our 16ft Hobie Cat? My wife is going to teach me how to sail. She's an old hand, but has never sailed this class of vessel before. I'm from Missouri, and have had success (and catastrophe) with canoes.

We live in Kitsap County.

We specifically want to sail on the Sound. We know of the lakes, but they hold no allure. They're also far away, whereas the Sound surrounds us. The Seattle catamaran clubs we've found online all seem dead in the water.

We have equipped ourselves appropriately for sailing in cold water (wet suits, PFDs, etc.). We're legal to sail in the Sound--according to the licensing lady I'm legal to sail my tiny boat to Japan if I'm sufficiently stupid. We have a righting system in place. Clearly we intend to stay out of shipping lanes and away from naval installations. We have charts.

Clearly at some point, we can venture tentatively outside protected waters. But, gee, it'd be nice to learn how to sail with a little bit of shelter.

But where do people sail smaller boats on the Sound? Where do you like to sail? There are a million bays and inlets and coves. Which ones have trailer access? Where are currents light? What appetizing bay, as seen from a map, really conceals a deadly current guaranteed to pull you into the ferry boat?

Seattle sailors, cough up your secrets. Please?

Kayak tour outfitters in Puget Sound--recommendations?

I seek people's experiences with, evaluations of, or (ideally) recommendations for outfitters running sea-kayaking trips in Puget Sound. My employer is promoting a three-day trip in the San Juans that will be run by Outdoor Odysseys, and while I'm very interested in doing something like this, the price ($675) seems a bit high; I've found other outfitters running similar trips who charge less. On the other hand, this one comes well recommended and, since I'm a novice at kayaking, I would highly value competence and experience.

Any recommendations for other groups running kayaking tours in the San Juans that I should look at? Or steer clear of?

'Office Outings' and 'Team Building' ideas in the Seattle area.

'Office Outings' and 'Team Building' ideas in the Seattle area. I work with a fun, young company on the Eastside. We are brainstorming for fun, interactive 'team building' events.

THIS DOES NOT entail trust falls, ropes courses, or get-to-know-you games. We're talking about fun, adult, hang-out time.

What we're looking for...
- Something that can be done between the hours of 3PM-10PM (doesn't have to fill up the entire block of time) on Mon-Fri of any week.

Things you should know...
- This is for a group of 10-12 individuals.
- Average age: 28
- All but 3 are either engaged or married.
- My company has a very large (but not unlimited) budget.
- Alcohol is always served at other company events and placed on the company tab.

Crawfish in Seattle?

Crawfish in Seattle? My girlfriend and I are both Southerners currently living in Seattle. We are dying for some boiled crawfish and, according to the Seattle Times, we have crawfish in Lake Washington.

Does anybody know where to get boiled crawfish anywhere (anywhere! we're dying!) in the Puget Sound area?

Boating; which are the best online discussion forums for motor boats?

I just moved onto the Puget Sound and need a small, affordable, transportable power boat and want suggestions from you about the best online boating discussion forums to ask further questions! Hi All,

I recently moved onto Alki Beach in the Puget Sound and want to get a low maintenance easy to transport but safe boat to place on the mooring buoy included with my home. I want the smallest, SAFE, boat with high transportability factor. Not looking for a yacht. Was thinking something like a Zodiac Futura MK III HD, or a RIB, or boston whaler. Something under 20' for sure.

My ideal situation would be an inflatable such as the above Zodiac, without a rigid hull, as this would allow me to deflate and easily transport and store the thing. I don't want to deal with marinas, winterizing, boat trailers, all that junk.

Now, I don't know if a 14' inflatable is a safe vessel for the puget sound.

I want suggestions from you about the best online discussion forums where I could ask more specific questions, as to what type of boat I should look for, etc.

What's Fun On Puget Sound?

We are about to spend a week on Puget Sound, in the Stanwood, Washington area. What are some great things to see and do between Everett and Bellingham? Special thanks for suggestions for places I can float my high performance rowboat (see: http://adirondack-guide-boat.com).

Beach? Coast? Shore? Also: is Puget Sound part of the ocean?

Waterfilter (heh) — so, I have a couple of water-related questions born of a drunken debate among friends. First: what is the difference between a coast, a beach, and a shore? Second: is Puget Sound part of the Pacific Ocean, an entirely separate body, or some freakish combination of the two? Finally: when Seattleites go down to the Sound, are they going to the coast, the beach, the shore, or something else? Most of us agree that "shore" is the East Coast term for what we West Coast people call a coast. (Except then why don't Eastcoasters say "East Shore" and "West Shore"?) Maybe "shore" is actually East Coast for beach? What's the difference?

As for Puget Sound: I maintained — steadfastly in my drunken state — that the Sound was not a part of the Pacific Ocean, but rather some entirely separate body of water that opened onto it. Days later, and sober, I can't recall my exact reasoning, but it still feels right. Is it? Doesn't the sound contain brackish water? Brackish, to me, is not equal to oceanic.

This all started when one of my friends said she had gone to the coast while in Seattle. I was confused (and would have been even while sober), and thought she had driven to the coast, as in along the Pacific Ocean. But no, she meant they'd gone down along the Sound someplace. Does the Puget Sound have a coast?
