I recently had the brilliant idea of giving my girlfriend a domain name plus hosting for her birthday. While it was well received, I haven't yet found a way to help her write a web site. While I know web technology really well, teaching my girlfriend HTML, CSS and JavaScript is not an option. We tried Frontpage (which is simply crap) and Dreamweaver (which is too closely coupled to the code for her) so far and didn't get anywhere. Is there any really simple page creation software, possibly web-based, that would allow her to create her own site without too much hassle? I'm thinking about something with the difficulty level of Google Page Creator, but maybe with a bit more power. Linux servers running pretty much anything are available.

im developing a *low key* department site for the company intranet. We've decided that ill write a simple menu that loads a word document into the facing frame for each menu item - this way i don't have to write any SQL or an interface for keeping the performance data up to date (the department employees will simply keep the word files up to date)

now the question - is there anyway to display a word document as a webpage (meaning: without the rulers and such along the sides and top)? [more inside]

Here's what I want. A text input system that gives me the following options after I write: publish to my weblog, send it as an email, or save it as a document (three buttons at the bottom: publish, send, save). The input area above the text area could function as a place for a title, email address, or drive location. Does that make sense? Does it exist?

I'm thinking of establishing a new personal web site for the risque/opinionated stuff that I don't want on my family-oriented site. The thing is, I'm not convinced that MT and it's bloggerific ilk nor Nuke and it's bastard children can maintain the stylized newspaper/-zine site that I want to erect. What other styles of free or dirt-cheap CMS software are out there that I should consider for the new site?
