I'm trying to map protests in the United States, but I'm grappling with data sources (and will eventually tangle with data management). Any ideas? [more inside]

Can anyone with knowledge of Pakistani politics tell me what's going on with the lawyers' protests? Are the protesting lawyers part of a particular political faction, or are they protesting as a profession in general? Is there anything being done by the legal profession world wide to support them, even symbolically?

What proven, documented examples exist of returning Vietnam vets being spat on upon arrival in USA? These stories have gone around for years; can anyone point me to documented cases that include credible, convincing evidence such as contemporaneous accounts / news stories, eyewitness corroboration by disinterested people, and, if possible, photographs.

In the papers, I routinely read about thousands of people pouring into the streets protesting some sort of injustice in what seems like a spontaneous gathering. What are the logistics behind this? How do people know where to go? And how does mob mentality function internationally, exactly? [more inside]

I would like to find some French Canadian music that is about the protests of the Summit of the Americas that took place April 2001 in Québec City. Failing that, dissent, civil disobedience, protests, police (over)reaction, etc would also be good themes. [more inside]

We are having an antiwar rally here in Fayetteville tomorrow...and of course there will be a counterrally as well. My question to you all is this: We have been told that we are not allowed to carry signs larger than 2 feet by 2 feet-which is smaller than the average size poster board. Have any of you ever participated in a protest and been restricted in such a manner? (this is by police order, and I am rather stunned.)
