I run a small monthly arts event. We do publicity with posters and online through social media (no budget for buying ads) and also have an sponsorship with a local radio station to promote us online and on-air. When I say "we" I mean "me" because I'm the only one who handles all that. We have a website, Twitter, Facebook that I keep updated. But a few people have told me I should collect attendees' email addresses and keep a list and send out notifications that way. [more inside]

I have eight months until a big book release, and I figure my main job until then is to promote my blog and my book. So how do I go about that in an effective way? I know *some* of what I'm supposed to do (write lots of good blog content, guest post a lot, get backlinks), but even for those parts, I imagine there are better and worse ways of going about it (asking people to link to certain articles doesn't seem to work very well, and I haven't had much luck with guest posting offers lately.) Any good books or articles on this subject? Or suggestions of your own?

You have a business. One of your customers has a business. He wants to cross-promote, co-produce events, etc. He subscribes to the "there's a sucker born every minute" business model, charging way too much for crap. He could bring you lots of new customers, but you don't want to give him any more "marks." How do you proceed? Or do you?

I want to promote my Young Adult fantasy novel about Morgan le Fay on the web. The biggest audience should be young women and libraries; Wiccans, medieval re-enactors and King Arthur fans would dig it, too (I hope). How can I best promote the book myself? What sites and blogs should I contact? Are author's tours effective? What should I definitely put my efforts into and what's not worth my time? [more inside]
