I just posted the second episode of my podcast and alerted my friends on social media and message boards. I want to reach out to the larger world though. The podcast is freeform (inspired by WFMU, John Peel, Henry Rollins) but so far has had a general focus of avant-garde and "new music" (inspired in part by John Schaefer's New Sounds). Are there sites/communities where I can let people know I exist without making it seem like spamming?

I've been asked by my employer to make a flash drive containing a self-contained slideshow with music (that he can give to prospective clients) that is both elegant and easy to open. It needs to work on both Mac and PC.

I'm been using both Google Adwords and a Facebook ad to promote an new album, but I think I'm using weak "keywords". Could I get the Metafilter community to look at a few no budget videos I've made to help me figure out "better" keywords to advertise my music? Or am I just wasting my money?

A friend of mine owns a record store and is curious about the legalities of giving away monthly mixed CDs. Each disc would feature 10 or so artists connected on a theme (female folk, avant garde jazz, little-known world, etc.) of artists he's featuring that month. No charge for the CDs. Basically, it's like the CDs you get with Mojo or CMJ. Legal? He's in Canada. What if they're "free with any purchase". Legal?

My mom is a singer/songwriter. She asked for some help with some online-marketing, website-redesign etc type ideas, and I said "sure"! She's now got me hooked up with a whole list of "tasks" that are really beyond my skillset, and interests, and has set it up for me as a 20-hr per week job (since I'm only working part-time). I'm sure there are people who'd love to do this as an internship (she's even willing to pay!), who are interested in music/music promotion -- what are they called, how can I find them, and how do I convince my mom that she'd be better-served hiring them?

How I do I turn my audience into loyal fans?
We have several concerts coming up, and though we've got a handle on promoting shows (getting people to come out), our questions are: (1) how do we get them to run home and tell their friends to go to our next show? (2) and how do we learn more about people who come? Looking for personal experiences from concert-goers and tips from musicians and other industries -
