My Executive Director wants a fancy new LCD projector. Something small, and with the possibility of direct USB support. He's got this idea that he *should* be able to put a file on a USB key and then just plug it into the projector, and not need a laptop to present. This strikes me as a scary proposition, one fraught with the possibility of failure. The thing is, I only have my own skepticism, no hard experience. Can anyone out there provide stories of experiences with this type of projector? Any pros or cons? Recommended projectors?

i'm getting a new projector to replace my existing one. my current macbook only has a 720p native resolution (1280x800) so i'm leaning towards buying a projector with 720p resolution. but thinking forward, with blu-ray players etc, will i have problems playing 1080p movies in 720p? and how will they look? is there a big difference? two for one:
I just set up my new projector and while it is AWESOME, i'm having an issue with running my incomputer tv input through and losing allot of quality. 1) is there a good piece of software for interpolating tv input to make it higher quality
2) i'd like to organize a movie club to take advantage of the new beast and meet people in my area (berkeley for the bay area mefites). I'm thinking a craigslist ad but i wasn't sure how you would start such a thing when you don't know anyone (similar to starting a bookclub or something) [more inside]
