Looking for help with the optics in my from-scratch overhead projector! [more inside]
I don't like to carry my laptop around everywhere. It's heavy and I don't like worrying about it getting damaged or stolen, especially when I'm travelling or using it outside. I would like to do a workaround where I use a roll-up keyboard, and have some kind of tiny computer that projects the computer screen onto a wall. Then I could have a lightweight, flexible keyboard and screen (maybe a piece of paper that I project my desktop onto?). Mefi, what are my options? [more inside]
TL;DR: I'm trying to replace the mounts on slides from the late 60's with outside dimensions of 50mm x 50mm inner dimension of 30.8mm x 30.8mm. What is this format? [more inside]

A small theater chain claims that their digital projectors produce a slight red glow that's visible on the screen and affects all of their auditoriums. They claim that it's so faint that hardly anyone notices it. I did and it bothered me the whole movie. What's going on there? [more inside]

I'm hosting an event at a hotel. It comes with a 10x10 and a 16x16 screen. They want (I'm not making this up) $2000 to rent a projector. I think I can do better. What specs do I need to project a 1080p video from a laptop on either of these screens? Bonus: Any referrals for such a service in the SF Bay Area?
At the age of 32, I've finally become an adult with my own apartment. Now I need an adult-sized audio/visual set up. Is it possible to have Chromecast (or other) plugged into a projector, and somehow getting the audio to go to wireless speakers? Also, when the projector is turned off, I'd like to be able to use those wireless speakers with Spotify. How do I set it all up? [more inside]
What is a good cheap option to project an image onto a large wall for a outlining to paint? [more inside]
I often have to give presentations at offices I don't work at. There is usually some form of AV equipment available, however, the local staff often don't know how this equipment works. Cables are not necessarily plugged in where they should be (or even there at all) and there are no on-site IT staff to help out if there's a problem. What do I need to a) know and b) buy to be able to waltz into a new office, hook up the doohickeys to the whoozawhatzits and deliver a PowerPoint presentation (or show a video) with a minimum of fuss? It has a cable coming out of its butt that goes into the wall (a plug), and three holes that say "ear" and "input" What do I need to watch movies on my wall? A DVD player? Can I connect it to my computer? Do I need to buy any cables? If so which ones? Can I get everything I need with amazon prime? Obviously, please explain it like I'm a three year old.
I've been put in charge of a photo booth setup at an upcoming party, and I need some advice. We would like for people to be able to take pictures in front of a backdrop for most of the night, photo booth style with funny hats/props, and then have an "instant slide show" at the end of the party of all the pics. Talk me through the hardware setup I need to make this happen, please! I've got a canon DSLR, a laptop (both Mac and PC available) various USB cables, and a projector. Thank you!

Is it possible to use a projector to project an image onto a wall that will span the entire wall, that is, do all / any projectors allow to stretch an image to arbitrary angle since the size of the room is limited? I would like to sketch an image onto an entire wall using this method. I don't think there is any way to actually print an image onto a wall using some kind of a setup with an inkjet head moving up and down along the wall... were there any experimental rigs that can do that?

I'm getting a projector for gaming (and occasionally movies). It's across a living room, about 15 feet, to go on a wall. I've previously used just a boring office projector and that worked fine. I'm not super concerned about image quality; it needs to be good enough to read text on the "screen", but that's about it. Can I get away with an LED projector? [more inside]
