I am making a transition from an Excel-based reporting analyst to a database-oriented role in which SQL will be the primary necessary skill. I have next to zero database experience. I'm looking for resources that would be effective at teaching me what I need to learn. More within… [more inside]

Tomorrow morning I'm meeting with someone to talk about implementing a local scheduling/database application. Most everything I know about the project suggests it's something I could do in my sleep. Thing is, I desperately need the money, I don't know how much to "bid," and I have a long history of undervaluing my work. How much should I ask for? [more inside]

I am a beginner in information technology, and I need to learn HTML5.
For me to start learning HTML5, I need to know what languages/codes that I should know to start working in HTML5.
I know HTML5 are used for webpages, mobile, games, and others.
For example, I knew that I should be familiar with CSS3
So what are other basic information and skills needed to learn before starting with HTML5?

What is the best way to go about creating a simple iPhone database access application? I'm looking to create an application which, although it could be very easily done in a web-based manner through the combination of php and mysql, I'd like the data to all be stored locally on the iPhone, in the app itself. I'm looking for some help with a math equation / algorithm I'm trying to create. I'm a programmer by trade and not very good at math so I'd like some help with this or perhaps a site where I could pay someone to come up with the equation I'm looking for. I considered rentacoder or elance however I'd be concerned if the companies there had the proper math knowledge. A lot of claims get made on those sites that turn out to be false. [more inside]

I have a MySQL database that contains two fields - name and e-mail - for a bunch of records. Separately I have a FileMaker 7 database that contains the same fields - name and e-mail - and
contains other fields, like "notes".
My question: can the FileMaker database, after polling the MySQL database, show name and e-mail as read-only; and then show the other fields as editable? i.e. if I make a change to the MySQL database, can I get it to show up in FM? [more inside]

I know how to make database-driven web sites using Windows servers, Access, IIS, and ASP.
I want to learn how to do the same using Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, and... whatever you use instead of Access.
Where do I start?

Does anyone know of any search engines that will also index non-plaintext documents (i.e. PDF's and Powerpoint)? Google has a search appliance, but we're looking to spend less than $2K.
