Whoa. An empty slate.
But I reboot and my old profile is suddenly back up and running. So, what just happened there? What can I do to make sure this doesn't happen again? Several related questions inside.

Please help me find .... it was a program or maybe a FireFox add-in that constantly submitted random search-engine searches - the idea being to prevent google/bing/whoever from building any kind of meaningful profile of the user.
Thanks

I'm looking for an android sound profile app that won't crash my phone. Ideally, I would be able to create a profile that had my alarm and ringer at full volume while disabling all other sounds. The last one I tried made my phone run really slowly and freeze intermittently, and a few of the other ones I've looked at don't seem to distinguish between notification types - I need the alarm to be a different control from email alerts and stuff. I'd really appreciate a recommendation! My googling has failed. Thanks in advance, MetaFilters.

I've often called my career in architecture glorified itinerant work. The fact is that I need to go where the jobs are. So, despite having confidence in my position for the next six months to two years, I recently decided to start brushing up my public facing networking tools. In particular this means LinkedIn, and I decided to send a request for recommendations to many folks I have worked with over the past decade and a half at several positions.
The result has been pretty gratifying to my ego, but now I realize I need to better understand the etiquette and strategy of how best to post them.

These days, what sorts of URLs are people likely to put in a "home page" field for their online directory listing? While some folks do indeed still have what I think of as an old-school home page, what other sorts of places might such a link lead to? Some possibilities I thought of so far are a flickr account, facebook account, linked-in, a business page rather than a personal page, 404's, and the occasional unintentional link-farm or porn takeover of expired domains. I'm looking for other landing page types that may be joining old-school home pages as increasingly common personal web address identifiers.

Some time in the last 8 years I read an article about children's author Margaret Wise Brown. It was a profile about her life (maybe in the context of a book review?), and it was about how depressed she was. I seem to remember her being in an abusive or controlling relationship with an older man or an older woman. It could have been in the New York Times, the New Yorker, or some other major publication. I've tried searching on the newyorker.com and nytimes.com, but didn't find what I wanted (but perhaps I wasn't searching the right way). Can you help me find this article? At least a citation if it's not online?

Over a year ago, MeFi users described how it was possible to
mass import addresses into MySpace from your address book. Now, scouring the site as described in the original post, I can't find this function. Have they removed it? Is there an automated tool / hack I could use to check if anyone from my address book has a MySpace profile? I'd raher not do it manually. address by address.
