Here is an example... My Boss: "We want to use the Can Can song. Our music guy has done a recording for us. Is it in the Public Domain?" Me: "Yes. The composer, J. Offenbach, has been deceased since 1880 and if we are doing our own arrangement we are fine." My Bosses Boss: "About 5 years ago, I tried to clear this song for use in a TV production and discovered that it was NOT in the Public Domain. I started watching Grey's Anatomy recently, and I can't help noticing a striking similarity between the opening title credits in that show and the opening credits in The 4400. Does anyone know if the same design/production studio created both of these introductory scenes? [more inside]

Have you noticed all the cool background music in television commericals these days? A lot of it is electronica, some ambient, some house, some trip-hop, etc. Who creates all of this music, and how do you break into the 'Television Commerical Music Production' business? How can I drop the hot beat for the next L'Oreal commercial?
