Is a yellow part of a cut red onion bad?

Sometimes when I cut a red onion I will see that part of the skin (underneath the flakiest outer layers), usually near the root, looks different from the rest of the skin. It's not red, and shiny, it's yellow and duller, and it and feels a touch softer than the surrounding skin. Is this rot or mold, or something more innocuous?

What is this plant that came in our CSA box today? The bunch is about 10-12 inches long, it smells vaguely like cilantro but without so much "soapiness", and the leaves are somewhat fennel-like. The flowers are small and pinkish to purplish.

What was the purple speckled bean I saw in Tamil Nadu, India?

When I lived in Chennai, the produce markets had these large fava-sized/shaped beans that were bright purple and white. They were fresh. Sometimes they came in large similarly colored pods, other times there were shelled. They were edible fresh, though we steamed them for sanitation. They were some of the best beans I've ever had, and reminded me more of fresh pea pods than beans, despite their large size. Any clue what they were?

Leek purchasing ethics, trim in store or not?

The store where I buy my produce carry stubby leeks which have maybe 5-6 inches of usable white leek at most. The store does a poor job trimming, and often the leaves left on weigh more than the usable portion of the leek itself. Much like this.
