Name of zone around bomb during diffusal

I am trying to remember a term for a specific zone designated around a bomb during its diffusal. Something about only certain people being able to pass through, or exchange places during the disposal operation. The term may apply to the rules followed in that zone, rather than the zone itself. Tiny Little Company, Great Big Surgical Procedure

How do I tell my bosses about an impending surgical procedure I will be receiving? We are a tiny company, we are very busy, the procedure is pretty big, and I will be out of commission for a good while. Also: the procedure itself COULD be considered "elective" (but kinda isn't). Appointment(s) with new dentist: is this normal?

Is it normal for a new dentist to expect one appointment for an exam/x-rays, a separate appointment for a cleaning, and then another follow-up appointment for any work that needs to be done (and I'm fairly sure I need at least one filling, possibly a crown)? Also, is it true that no dentists offer warm rinsing/jet water? (Do you know one that does offer this near Durham, NC?) [more inside]

I'd arrest you if you were five feet closer!

I made it through law school without taking crim pro, I only crammed what I needed of crim pro for the bar exam, and my practice has nothing to do with criminal law. So, esteemed colleagues at the bar, can you tell me how jurisdictional lines affect police procedure at the state/local level? [more inside]

Unsure if I should seek clarification on workplace procedures

Sorry if I am vague. Other than seeming to lack leadership qualities my current boss has been nothing but pleasant (I mention this so it doesn't seem like I am questioning whether to do this because of my bosses behavior). I have been working at this place for a few months now. Basically I am unclear on several policies and procedures that are critical to my ability to do my job. I tend to overthink things but at the same time I feel like not understanding leads to a more stressful and possibly not correctly executed set of working conditions. My supervision in this job is nearly non existent and I am somewhat free to act as I see fit but my boss has said he wants things done a certain way. Going further this wasn't a failure to pay attention on my part . There was significant training done by the company but none of it focused on this area. Basically my issue is should I sit down with my boss and seek clarification on a number of points ( something which would probably take 15 minutes) when technically I can do my job without the clarification but it might mean my work may not be in line with my bosses, the companies, or common sense expectations? Is a colonoscopy really surgery?

I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy in December. I was put under twilight sedation during the procedure, and when it was over, I went home. Now my insurance company is claiming that this outpatient procedure counts as surgery, which has a copay of $150. Are they right? [more inside]

What procedure will kill my eye vein?

I went to a ENT/facial surgeon recently for something unrelated, and I asked the doctor, who also does facial plastic surgery, what I could do about a large vein I have under my right eye. He had me speak with a woman in the office, and she told me, after looking at my vein(s), about a procedure for veins like mine (not spider veins) wherein they inject saline into the vein and then it goes away. What procedure is that? How much does it cost? Do you have a recommendation for a place in Philadelphia, PA? [more inside]

Corporate Dysfunction

Is your company as dysfunctional as mine? From the outside looking in, everything seems great. From a customers point of view our product is quite polished. But....if you sit where I am, everything is a mess. Procedures that make no sense. Technology infrastructure that looks like spaghetti. Horrible data. Broken lines of communication. Inability to book a simple meeting room. People bitching about leaving stuff in the refrigerator. Meetings that go nowhere. I have seen this at other companies. Is this par for the course or do I need to get a new job? If this isn't the case in your company, what things ( process / procedure / software / behaviours/ etc. ) have made the biggest positive impact? If your company is as messy as mine, what things make you say WTF? Learn me about what happens in your corporate black box.....for better or worse.
