Help me diagnose/repair my Toshiba Satellite A355D-S6889.
When I try to boot, I get BOOTMGR MISSING.
When I try to reinstall XP from a CD it seems to start out fine, copying drivers and such, until it gets to the message Starting Windows, at which point I get a blue screen o' death with the code 0x7B which google informs me is a hard disk error. [more inside]

I recently noticed that some video downloads were failing because the video files were `in use'. Then I noticed that for very brief moments, an icon which turned out to be `Ogg Direct show filter' was flashing on and off in my toolbar. How can I stop it? [more inside]

My Windows Explorer in Win 2000 will open a web site but when it is loaded, the site immediately refreshes. This repeats again and again in every page and makes it impossible to use the web. This just began to happen today. I’ve run a virus and adware check and nothing shows. Any ideas on what to do about this?

Whenever I insert a new disc into either my (internal) DVD drive or my (USB external) CD-burner, Windows XP Explorer refuses to refresh itself with information about the new disc: still shows the old disc's name, double-clicking brings up the content of the old disc (or tries to autorun), etc. Only thing that fixes the problem is to reboot with the new disc inserted. Why, and what's the solution?
