gluteusmedius tendon operation

i have a problem with the gluteusmedius tendon. it has had soreness for more than a year due to an impact injury and has been diagnosed as a tear. the surgeon has recommended operating. he said it is a fairly standard operation with about 3 months recovery. my question is, has anyone had this surgery, and if so, can you give me any tips? such as length of recovery, how long off your feet, how successful was the operation. What's wrong with my blog banner?

There's a big blank spot on the banner of my blogspot blog and I can't seem to get rid of it. When I "preview" my blog from blogger everything looks fine. But when I view the actual url there's that blank strip along the bottom of the banner. I've only noticed it in the last few weeks, and I haven't changed anything about the format, it's appeared out of the blue.

Smearing / differential movement display problems on my LED TV?

My LED TV has always had a couple of (probably related) strange display issues. I'd like to know what this problem(s) is called so I can figure out if it can be fixed (and to avoid getting it in the next TV I buy - I might just trash this one!). See details below. [more inside]

A problem return on eBay...

I purchased an "officially" refurbished laptop from a high volume seller on eBay. Unfortunately, the laptop arrived with a cracked screen. I initiated a return, which the seller accepted, but there was never an option to print a mailing slip. Instead, the status of the return went instantly to: "Shipping, in transit" with a tracking number, while the computer sits on my table. What is going on and what do I do about it?

2007 Toyota Avalon starting problem...

About two weeks ago I started my Avalon and pulled it into my garage. I turned the car off and decided to restart it to pull a little closer inside. It would try to turn over but would not start until after about 4 tries. The same thing today, I started the car, turned it off and went in the house for something, came out and it would not start until about 4 tries. There are no dash lights burning after starting, what could be the problem?

What can I do to solve this?

I live in a studio apartment with parquet flooring. The building is old for one in Toronto (~25 years), and the heating comes from pipes embedded in the ceiling of the room. The tenants right under my unit have their heat constantly turned on, which means my floor is constantly hot. Turning on my AC and two fans all the time doesn't solve the problem, and is borderline surreal as I embark on yet another Toronto winter. [more inside]

How do I solve my 6 block puzzle?

More than 10 years ago, I got a 6-block wood puzzle at a market in Portland,OR. It's NOT the standard Burr puzzle, even though it results in a similar shape, with a meatier core and less sticking out on each side. I used to be quick to solve it but alas, I no longer can figure it out. I think it's beautiful but also don't have use for 6 pieces if I can't solve the puzzle. Anyone know the puzzle? Can you help?

Lights out: Why did my overhead lights all fail at the same time?

Does anyone know anything about electricity? Here's the situation. About a week ago, the overhead lights in my dining room and living room went out simultaneously -- we saw it happen. There is another light (kitchen overhead) on that circuit that is now out as well. I think it was turned off at the time, so we only noticed it later, but I am guessing it went out at the same time as the others. [more inside]

Sticky Work Situation - Worth Bringing Up?

I'm in a sticky work situation. My account manager, who I'm partnered with, is pretty great overall - tries to be understanding, gives me enough rope to succeed but enough support to perform, even spends extra hours with me for development. But we're all in our early to mid-twenties, which can be kind of a rough age. One of our other account managers is pretty blunt, quite potty-mouthed, abrasive with terrible delivery. For example, she will regularly say people "shit the bed" "absolutely fucking suck" "is a sack of shit" as a reason not to work with them. [more inside]

Paid for a car repair that failed, but mechanic is gone after surgery

We started having trouble with our car almost a year ago. We paid $1500 for a repair that failed, and the mechanic tried twice more without additional charges. Now, it’s failed again, but the mechanic had heart surgery and closed down the shop, and I haven’t been able to reach him. Is there anything left to do, or do we just have to accept that we’re out the money without a fix, and start over with someone new? [more inside]

Another problem with Chrome: "Unable to Access Network"

For about a month I have been getting this annoying message "Unable to Access Network" when trying to open random webpages in Chrome. The drop down message also has two buttons: "Reload" and "More". If I hit "reload", 8 times out of 10 the webpage opens immediately. But sometimes I can't get in with repeated tries. This only happens in Chrome. If get locked out of a page in Chrome, I can open it in Explorer. I tried to fix this by disabling my extensions and my Firewall (Norton Security Suite). That didn't work. Again, it is happening to random webpages at random times. It has become very frustrating and I feel I have no choice but to just dump Chrome. Any ideas?

Shoes as comfy as Alegrias, but prettier...what are they called?

I have developed problem feet; bunions, a chipped bone and arthritis. I tried Alegrias and woohoo, they don't hurt!! Nice styles, pretty colors, but they are just a bit...chunky. Know what I mean? I know about Dansko, Keen and Merrell, but are there other brands that combine exceptional comfort with good looks? I want a feminine effect. I like sporty, athletic, fun, colorful, girly shoes. Low heels. I am a lady, 55, petite, active and on my feet more often than off, during my work day. I have an eclectic, thrift store wardrobe, heavy on blacks, and neutrals, with colorful accent pieces. I tend toward "costumes" rather than outfits, if that gives you a sense of my style. I want pretty feet that don't hurt!

Should I pursue my complaint about BT via the ombudsman?

Four years ago I set up what should have been a phone/broadband package with BT. I have contemporaneous notes of the phone conversation to do this. It has only recently come to light that BT actually set up two separate accounts. Because I opted for online billing, I only saw details of one account when I checked payments. I knew another payment was going out of my account, but I thought it was line rental. I know that I should have made absolutely sure exactly what all the payments were for, but the bills and the details on my bank statements do not make that easy and I had no reason whatsoever to suspect that all was not in order. I am certainly out of pocket, although it is difficult for me to work out by how much. I have followed BT's complaints procedure and have been offered £65 as a final offer. I don't think this is enough, but wonder whether I have a strong enough case to make taking the matter to the ombudsman worthwhile. I would really appreciate advice on this. Thank you.

Dating filter: I like this guy - but he only talks about himself

I'm interested in dating and otherwise be-friend a guy. We have common interests and he seems to be "nice" and has a high level of intelligence. That said - Every conversation revolves around him. I love to ask people questions and let them "talk freely about their life or whatever"... but at some point you want to have a two-sided conversation. How can I politely make this point without coming across in the wrong way? This is not someone I have known longer then a couple dates.

Stomach Problem and Antibiotics

I used tetracycline for a year and a half for acne. I had no negative side effects. On April 14th I started to have abdomen pain, loose stools, diahrea, gas, and stomach gurgling. On April 18th I went to a walk in clinic and they told me that I should stop taking the tetracycline because I've been on it for too long and it can negatively effect my gut flora. I had a stool sample, blood test and ultrasound done and they all came back negative. I went to my family doctor April 29th and he said that I am suffering from IBS and said to take a PPI and a anti-depressant. He also said it was unlikely that the tetracycline could cause my stomach problems. I took the PPI and it didn't help. I do not want to take the anti-depressant. I visited my dermatologist this week and he said I should continue taking the tetracycline and that stomach problems can be related to stress. My stomach is still bothering me and I have diahrea in the early morning and I'm taking imodium to stop that. I am visiting my girlfriend in Europe in 2 weeks and I hope my stomach problems don't negatively effect my trip. Does anyone know if using Antibiotics could cause stomach issues like this. I am upset at myself for taking the Tetracycline for so long. But my dermatologist told me it was safe. I hope this will pass and not be a lifelong syndrome.

I'll try to make this short. I am at my breaking point. My girlfriend of a year and a half or so is definitely bipolar, I would say without a doubt that it could be severe. Did I get screwed by a local computer repair place?

I dropped off my computer to be repaired because it kept powering off randomly, and often before windows could even start booting. They told me it was a faulty power supply, which they replaced. I received a call about fifteen minutes after I got home from a tech there telling me that they forgot to plug my DVD drive into the power supply, and that I can bring it back and have them fix it. When I ran it at home, I noticed google chrome was missing. Another one of my programs doesn't work now, telling me that "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." 3-4 other programs that I've picked at random and tried to run work fine.
