I won a prize! Now, how much will I pay in taxes?

I won a prize in an online drawing from a small business. (The prize is something I want, and I don't want to sell it or give it away.) The stated value of the prize is $750 (and I've confirmed that is what it would actually cost if I were paying for it—the price is not inflated for the prize). How can I determine what taxes I will need to pay on this, given that I pay taxes in NYC, New York State, and federally?

Land the coin, get a free taco

At some older fast-food joints and other smaller businesses, there used to be a contraption filled with water that you could insert a coin into, and hope that it'd land on a small platform. If it did, you'd get something from the business, if it didn't, your coin would go towards some charitable cause (I think). Any more details/ideas on what this was called? [more inside]

Can I ask for the cash value of a prize?

At work, I won a new macbook air in a contest that I don't want/need When I get it, I plan to just sell it on craigslist, where I'll take a loss compared to its retail price. Thing is, I'm 98% sure that my boss, who organized the contest, hasn't actually bought the computer yet. Would it be rude to just ask him to give me the cash he would have spent directly?

Time-share Scam?

Scam? I've been contacted and told I was selected to win a prize as a thank you for filling out a survey a few months ago. I have to go to a lunch and draw for which prize I'll receive out of 5. Presumably this is a scam, and I imagine it's a Time Share sales thing. So my question is this, if I go, and withstand the stupid timeshare marketing thing, will I actually get a prize? Or will I be scammed out of that, too? The company in question is 'The Vacation Store' and this is local to Toronto, since there are a lot of Vacation Stores out there on the net.
