I love stationery and letterpress and prints and graphic design generally and, for fun, I'd love to learn to make my own.
Right now, I spend a lot of my down time oohing and aahing over pretty paper products on Etsy and at Design Sponge. I make my own party invites, cards, gift tags and wrap - but just in a cobbled together kind of way. I'd dearly love to learn to design and print lovely things like
this and
this and
this.
Where should I start?

How do laser and inkjet printers work? I know the basics, of course, but I am looking for serious expertise at the level of the actual chemistry and physics... things like fuzer specs, toner chemistry, deposition, transfer, particle masses, exotic materials; in short... the stuff an actual expert would know.

HP used to have a piece of software called "Smart Web Printing" or something. It essentially allowed you to yank multiple pieces of text and media from different websites and put them all on a single page for easy printing. However, it stopped working when Firefox 3 came out and there's no indication of continued development. Is there a similar extension available? I miss my clip book!

I just got a diana f+ camera. I have shoten? shot, 3 rolls of film and none of them have turned out well. All of the images are extremely blurry. We have tried out the fish eye, the telephoto and the wide angle lenses as well as the color gels and the long exposures. So far only the long exposures seem to be turning out at all. None of the other pics display the attributes of the accessories used. There are no color changes or changes in the clarity. SO my question is...what am I doing wrong?

Printmaking question. I'm hoping to print some wedding invitations using a woodblock print. I have text and a design ready, but I don't know the best way to transfer them to the block. There are some small details in the design, so the transfer method needs to be pretty precise. So what do I do and what materials do I need? Some kind of transfer paper? Bonus: do you know where in NYC could I find exactly what I need?

Any advice \ information appreciated.
Please specify me What exact voltage converter product to buy & where to buy it from USA online store. Thanks.

I'm interested in printing a few of my wife's digital photographs as a gift to her.
I don't know a thing about photography (my wife is the expert), so I'm looking for some advice.
Here's some details:
I have the original hi-res versions (she uses a Nikon D70, so I think the files are large jpegs).
I'm interested in pretty large prints - probably around 24" x 18".
I'm not too concerned about cost - my priorities are the highest possible quality, and longevity. Ideally, I'd love to use someone local (Boston, MA).
Can anyone recommend a printer? What specifically should I ask for? (Types of printing, types of paper, etc.).
Many thanks in advance!

I'm working with a client who has an existing web logo designed the majority of which is three primary colors in RGB. So left to right it's a vertical stripe of Blue (#0000FF) next to a vertical stripe of Red (#FF0000), next to a vertical stripe of Yellow (#FFFF00). This logo now needs to go on business cards (plastic ones) and so needs to convert from RGB to CMYK in order to be printed. Problem being that the CMYK gamut just doesn't do those eye popping RGB turned up to 11 primaries so conversion leaves a lackluster product and the client on seeing the drafts in PDF with the colors converted is not impressed. Ideas for saving this one? CMYK versions of those colors that contrast in a similar way to their RGB equivalents? Recommendations for printers (online or in NYC) who can do 3.5" x 2", rounded corner, double-sided, plastic business cards with special inks? HELP!

Hey guys,
I'm am trying to find a screen printer tee shirt in the Atlanta area so I was hoping someone might have a recommendation. I know it may be a tall order, but I am trying to find a printer that can fulfill all, or at least most of my requirements in house. Ideally they should be capable of performing the actual screen printing, heat transfers for rhinestones, embroidery, and tag relabeling. Most of the printers I have talked to contract out the heat transfers and embroidery, but I'd like a printer that can do most of this in house, because of my time constraints. I already have my designs and shirts, but I just need to do get them printed. Thank you so much for your help!!

I'm looking for professional digital printing services in Beijing similar to
this one in Shanghai. I've used the Shanghai service several times for very large prints including gallery mounting and I need a comparable service in Beijing. It's important that the technician speak at least moderate english and that they have a good selection of professional papers and inks.
FWIW, I've spoken quickly to a couple of shops at Wukesong in Beijing and haven't been impressed yet.

FileFormatFilter: Asking for a (not terribly computer-proficient) labmate in need. He uses flexible photomasks, printed on some kind of transparency. He has a company that will do this. He also has a layout, currently in CIF and GDSII format, with a very fine grid of dots. The company only accepts EPS or PDF. How can I accomplish this while A> maintaining a reasonable file size and B> maintaining the detail?
