Tell me about high quality publishing! What does it involve, where can I read more about it and who does it? I’m interested in buying old cornerstone types of works like The Federalist Papers, The Origin of the Species bound, made, etc. at the best possible quality.

How can I insert a small mirror or peephole into the front cover of a handmade hardcover book? What kind of material is appropriate for the cover? Will cardboard/cloth do? What about leather? Is there a tutorial anywhere to show how this is done?

A colleague is interested in doing some personal desktop publishing and bookbinding. He came to me and asked a few questions I couldn't answer offhand and don't have the terms to google efficiently.

I want to use cafepress to publish a small book of black and white illustrations, maybe about 100 pages. I'm concerned that their 100mb pdf limit will result in poor image quality. This is a personal project. Has anyone made an artbook through cafepress? Were you happy with the result?

ChicagoFilter: I'm looking for small presses in Chicago - the type that churn out lots of creative zines, etc. I LIVE here, but I'm having trouble finding where to go to get a good list going. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

OK -- Regan does at roughly 3:00pm Saturday. Monday at roughly 2:00, the obituary issue of Time magazine arrives in my mailbox. Question: How in god's name did they do that? Even if if they had the issue sitting on pallets waiting to go (which they didn't because there was non-Regan material in there) how did they get the USPS to deliver it on the next business day?
