Does anyone know how to put more memory in an HP Laserjet 4700? There is an access panel on the rear right-hand side, and four screws holding in two slot covers labeled EIO, I believe.
I downloaded the service manuals but nothing in there I could use. I can pay someone to do a service call but it seems like it should be something I could do myself.

My wife is starting her own business. She's making custom illustrations for children's nurseries. She's looking for recomendations on a printer that can produce archival level prints so she can keep the originals (we started off wondering about giclee but it seems way to expensive).
The final product should feel like a professional print when framed and needs to last. Also, an thoughts on a scanner to be used in concert with the printer?

I'm looking for a new color printer that won't bankrupt me in the long run and works reliably with 3 kids that will treat it like crap. I know this question gets discussed frequently but the types of printers available seems to change rather frequently so I'm confused about what to do.
Here's my list of wants/needs and questions. [more inside]

My graphic design office needs a new printer, and we're trying to decide between a Xerox 7400DN color laser
(actually LED) and an Epson 4800 Pro inkjet
. We print primarily (maybe 90%) 8.5x11 and 11x17, about evenly between color and black and white, with a few 13x19 pages. The Xerox is limited to 12x18, which means we would have to re-work some templates to get them onto 12x18. The Epson prints up to 17" wide, which I'm sure we'd use once in a while. Duplexing (printing both sides at once) on the Xerox would be nice. The Xerox lists for more money, but we can get it for about the same as the Epson ($2500).
Any general thoughts between color lasers and inkjets in general? I know the inkjet has the ability to print higher quality, but is much slower than the laser. Anything else?

Linux Printer Share:
i'm way over my head, I have a HP 648c USB printer, and I want to use my xbox that runs Debian natively (Xebian) to share the printer. Physical connection is no problem. But I am in way over my head in terms of setting up a simple printer share. It appear possible via Samba, but my experiments didn't pan out. [more inside]

I have a printer on my MacMini and I want to be able to use it for print requests from my Windows XP laptop. I was able to get it working using CUPS and the MacMini's IP address, but the problem is that since the Mac is on a DHCP wireless network, the IP address can (and has) changed. Now printing from the laptop won't work. How do I identify the Mac from the laptop without using an IP address? [more inside]

Have you recently bought a great printer? - tell me about it.
I've been asked to do some research for a friend who needs to buy a new printer - and I'm swimming in data.
The main criteria are: low-to-medium price; colour/black & white (as opposed to some of the amazing deals on b&w only laser printers around); reasonably priced consumables (this may be the trickiest part to assess); reliability.
We're in the UK - any online deals have to be accessible to this country. TIA!

I picked up an HP LaserJet IIIp printer a few days ago. Its great, I love how the output looks, but any paper that goes through (regardless of which output tray I use) gets ruffled. I just tried an envelope, and the envelope came out with ridges every 1/2" or so. This can't be right... any idea whats wrong and how to fix it?

My office has a lot of empty toner cartridges from laser printers sitting around. What should I do with them? I don't feel good about throwing them in the trash, but whenever I research selling the cartridges to a company, I can only get something like 1 dollar for each (and that will barely cover the shipping costs). What do I do??

Computer Peripheral Filter: I am looking for a device (other than a plotter) which I can hook up to a computer which can then generate text that looks hand written. I know you can get handwriting TT fonts , but the documents produced do not really look hand written.
Getting a plotter is a last resort. I'm pretty sure I have heard of a device that will do what I need, but I can't seem to google it. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

So I'm looking for a new printer, the old one is going to a good home. I'm not sure where to start looking for a new one but I have a few criteria: Laser, two-sided printing, and I'd like color.
It's been so long since I got a printer (or any hardware) that I'm not sure where to go looking for reviews and suggestions. Anyone out there able to suggest a good printer that matches the above requirements, or have an idea where to start looking? I've had a lot of good experience with HP's, but I'm willing to look at other brands, I'm mostly interested in quality. My last printer lasted me 7-8 years, and I'd like something that could do that again.
Oh, and if its an addon to get the two-sided printing, that's OK.
