I'm helping a buddy clean out his basement before renovating. We're finding a lot of miscellany including a large storage container of random cords and cables for electronic equipment. Also unearthed in the pile of boxes has been a scanner and inkjet printer from at least 10 years ago. What are the best options for dealing with this stuff? (More inside.) [more inside]

After exclusively using PCs for the past 20 years, I just purchased my first Macbook Pro (OS X Mavericks)! I am now looking for a color printer/scanner that will be compatible for both the Mac and a Toshiba PC (Windows 8.1). [more inside]

March 2013 edition ! A non-profit that I volunteer with is looking to buy a new all-in-one machine to do its printing, scanning, copying, and faxing for its office. Non-profit uses windows. Initial budget is $300-500.
Most of the printing will be in b&w but will occasionally need to print in color (not for photos but for small logos on flyers, etc).
What should I recommend to them ? Laser ? Inkjet, no right ? They'd rather not since space is at a premium there.

I'm overwhelmed by the task of finding a 11x17 copier which also scans and prints. I'm looking for a reliable product -- and willing to spend the money -- but I don't know where to start. Geeky details-- [more inside]

I need a new all-in-one machine that is PC and Mac compatible, good for networking, can handle faxes with multiple ring, copier, flatbed scanner, multiple cartridges of paper, ink doesn't cost a million dollars, and is really sturdy. I'm willing to spend up to $500 but I want it to be good quality. Personal recommendations?

I'm looking for a home office solution for B&W laser printing, scanning, copying (in approximately that order of importance, with the ability to fax coming in a very distant fourth). I'd like to spend less than $350. Network connectivity nice but not critical. Pony optional. Suggestions? Am I doomed to a choice between an endless string of near-disposable crappy all-in-one desktop models and far-out-of-budget business class maintenance contract solutions?

A professor friend of mine is in the market for a new computer and printer, and has enlisted my help. I, in turn, am hoping to enlist MeFi's help. Do you have any recommendations for me? [more inside]

My HP C4600 series All-in-one inkjet just met its untimely demise. Unfortunately, this included the glass on the scanner having been completely shattered. [more inside]

Having had 3 all-in-one printer/fax/scanner units go kerblooey after less than a year of moderate use each, I'm thinking I need to go to separate printer and scanner units. (I don't need the fax function; this is done directly from the computers.) Looking for recommendations for color / black-and-white printers, and scanners, that you've found to be robust and reliable. Please cite brands and models. Thanks!

I installed software that came with a Brother MFC-9840CDW all-in-one and now my dell computer is having multiple problems at startup. The application itself failed to start citing missing registry data. Then, on restarting I get "Services.exe - Application Error" and clicking either OK or cancel causes an automatic shutdown timer to start. [more inside]

What Mac OS X software will let me scan things using my second hand Canon ImageRunner C5800
networked printer/scanner? There's PC software available, but I'd rather not have to run XP just to scan things. Note: if I sound clueless I am; if I'm missing something obvious then please tell me.

Just returned from fabulous 2 week holiday in New York. I Brought back Epson Artisan 800 All-in-One Printer from Staples costing $230. Unfortunately, I cannot use it in U.K., unless I plug voltage converter/transformer products. Has anyone else bought this set over there with more success?
Any advice \ information appreciated.
Please specify me What exact voltage converter product to buy & where to buy it from USA online store. Thanks. [more inside]

My office just bought a HP Designjet 815mfp
large format scanner/printer. The only space we have for it is in my co-worker's office area and now he's sitting about 5 feet away from the device. Is there any health danger from sitting so close to this device? [more inside]
