What are the most innovatively designed books currently in print? Do you know of one that has a particularly interesting layout, perhaps using typography, photos, drawings, or layout in an unusual way? If so, what makes it so great? I am interested in learning about some fun new examples of design.
Toronto-filter: Some professors at my school are giving their textbooks to us students, free, via a printable PDF. So, I'd like to get it printed as cheaply as possible and then bound. Where's the best place to do this? Our textbook are on average ~500 pages. Proximity to Bloor and Spadina is a big plus.

Recently when I print with Firefox, it tries to squeeze everything into 1 page. The text is TINY. I have tried "Print 100%", Scale to Fit, Print regular in preferences (HP Laserjet 4200). I have tried to print with different drivers. Nothing I do save "Print 200+%" works, and that's absolutely absurd to have to do each time. Chrome prints things fine, but I really don't want to have to use a different browser each time... Anybody have an idea? Any info I seem to find on the web comes up with old FF2 and FF3 printing issues. Nothing with a more current version on the mozilla forums.
I've got some designs I want printed. Small run, around 25 pieces. I've been trying to get something set up with Holy Mountain, Shout Out Loud, etc. but it's been quite difficult getting a response. Any other suggestions I should check out? Both companies I listed use French paper, which is what I'd like to use.

At work I am often asked whether a news story on a website appeared in print, and we need to know within a quick timeframe. We do not have Lexis Nexis or any other such database for me to check against and there's no chance that we'll have money in our budget to buy a subscription. Usually I resort to using Press Display, but they don't have every paper. Is there an online resource for me to use to determine what was published in print? [more inside]

Identify Japanese woodblock print of kabuki actor, possibly by Kunichika, possibly set on Tokaido Road
Need help identifying this Japanese woodblock print of a kabuki actor. I think the artist is Kunichika, and the print is set somewhere on the Tôkaidô Road. At the top of the page is a large box of Japanese text -- I'm hoping someone can read this, or otherwise identify any hints about the location, actor and character. I'm looking for specific examples of special-interest magazines and magazine-style newsletters that made a transition from print-only to online-only. What happened? Can you help with identifying this mystery print? It shows a 'futuristic' town, with bubbly/jet-like cars and trains going past a mall. I saw this print at the Philly City Archives. I have an idea in mind that would be centered around a fake passport-like document taken to specific, fun places around the world. About once a year, I actually want to print something. About once a day, I accidentally hit command-p when I'm trying to hit some other nearby key (command-o, command-[, etc.) I want this key combination to do nothing in any app on OSX. I can cancel the prints, but I want to prevent the print dialog from ever appearing. Ideally I'd like to do this in a way I could undo the few times I actually want to print. Is there some way to make this happen?
