I just want to design and print a poster online. Snapfish, Shutterfly, and Vistaprint don't seem to offer what I thought would be pretty basic design tools. I don't want to make the default photo collage; my idea was to use this kind of gridded layout, but with rounded corners on all the squares. Some would be replaced by photos, others would be white text on black. Where or how can I do this?
I'm looking at a print based project and am on the hunt for A4 or A5 sheets of tire tread, as if it's been removed straight from a tire. Is this possible? [more inside]
The market data page of the WSJ is incredibly dense and filled with interesting graphs. I've been trying to figure out what must go into the creation of such an item on a daily basis, and by perusing the careers page for Dow Jones, i've gathered some information, namely that there is extensive use at the WSJ of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and MATLAB. What I haven't figured out is what the workflow looks like for the latter part of creating those graphs. [more inside]

What are the most innovatively designed books currently in print? Do you know of one that has a particularly interesting layout, perhaps using typography, photos, drawings, or layout in an unusual way? If so, what makes it so great? I am interested in learning about some fun new examples of design.
I've got some designs I want printed. Small run, around 25 pieces. I've been trying to get something set up with Holy Mountain, Shout Out Loud, etc. but it's been quite difficult getting a response. Any other suggestions I should check out? Both companies I listed use French paper, which is what I'd like to use.

I recently acquired 1.6 acres in Vermont and want to decorate my house with botanical illustrations of the trees on the property. I've found historic drawings by Michaux, Jaume Saint-Hilaire, and Bessa, but it seems as though I can only by prints from one website, and they are around $140 each. There must be a less extravagant option. They need not be historic, but they should be legible and help identify what can be seen through a nearby window. [more inside]
I have recently purchased a Heidelberg Windmill platten press and am starting a letterpress and design company. I am a Graphic Designer by trade so I have the skill, all I am lacking is some insight into creating a solid business plan and help with suppliers etc... within Canada. What experience do you have with getting plates made in Canada? Do you use Polymer plates? Ink Suppliers? Paper Suppliers? Getting die's made? Any information above and beyond is much appreciated.
