Automatic Flickr Photo Books

Is there any service/script/app that will automagically take the photos from a date range in my Flickr photo stream and set them up to be a printed and bound book? The model for most tools is upload, review, print. I would like it to be capture all from Flickr, review, print. The first is an include model, the second is an exclude model. Since I take on the order of 500 pictures/year, the first model is onerous.

Creativity made easy, I hope.

I just want to design and print a poster online. Snapfish, Shutterfly, and Vistaprint don't seem to offer what I thought would be pretty basic design tools. I don't want to make the default photo collage; my idea was to use this kind of gridded layout, but with rounded corners on all the squares. Some would be replaced by photos, others would be white text on black. Where or how can I do this?

Best way to print our own letterhead?

I work for a company that has many sub-companies (an LLC for each project, that sort of thing). We are re-designing our logo and need to reprint all of our letterhead. We have some that we use frequently, which I will be ordering from a commercial printer. We have others however that are used very infrequently (think 5-10 sheets a year or less). How can I best print our own letterhead for those very short runs? [more inside]

Need help finding nice women's tops

Going back to work after maternity leave, but a size bigger so I have to get new clothes. I hate clothes shopping and I don't have time to browse the stores anyway. Looking for an inexpensive online print shop for a brochure...

I've been hired by a client to design a (relatively) simple brochure for her. She'd like it to be bilingual (English/French) and, due to this, would ideally like all the content in one language to be on one side of the 8.5"x11" page, so it's easier to read when completely unfolded. It's like a reverse Z-fold... [more inside]

Ticket printing?

A local non-profit I'm with holds monthly events and sells tickets. Right now the tickets are printed in bulk. We have full price tickets, student/senior tickets, and comp (free) tickets. We'd like to have more flexibility to introduce different price points as test runs and easily track how they go. We'd also like to be able to keep better tabs on the comp tickets, by differentiating tickets given to volunteers versus comp tickets given to sponsors, for example. [more inside]

Found this book, then lost it again

My brother and I are searching for a loved childhood book. He found it on a rare book website, paid for a copy, and never heard from the seller again. We're more interested in finding the book than tracking down the bum. The problem is, we've forgotten the author, and are uncertain about the actual title. It's about a boy who wants a dog, and goes to sleep (I think the night before his birthday) and has a hallucinogenic dream about a giant dog and stairways to the sky and a giant door with an inscription on it. When he wakes up, there is a real puppy waiting for him, I think as his birthday present. I remember the cover was green. It was an oversize picture book. I think the title was "The Wishing Tree" but I can't find the book under that title anywhere. I read it in the mid-60's. Thank you for your help!

Authors: Do you stock up on copies of your own book(s)?

I got a book published a couple of years ago. I love being able to give copies to people once in a a while. I expect I'd like to be able to keep doing this for many years to come. Thus far, I just order new books as I need them. But is it likely that at some point it'll no longer be possible to order more copies? Should I be stocking up on the book? How to other authors out there handle this? I'd rather not have to keep a million copies around if I can avoid it (it's a small place I've got) but I'd hate to find, that, say, in ten years, I'm out of copies to give away, and no more can be had anywhere...

What tool is used to create graphs on the market data page in the WSJ?

The market data page of the WSJ is incredibly dense and filled with interesting graphs. I've been trying to figure out what must go into the creation of such an item on a daily basis, and by perusing the careers page for Dow Jones, i've gathered some information, namely that there is extensive use at the WSJ of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and MATLAB. It looks great but could you make it a little bigger?

I bought a print of a painting I love in the only format available: A full bleed art show poster on glossy 11"x17" bond. The painting reproduction is approximately the top half of the poster, say 10"x8". I can clearly see the grain of the canvas in the print, and it is entirely possible that the original painting is not much larger than the reprint. So my question is, is it feasible to have this print blown up to twice or thrice it's size without sacrificing quality? [more inside]

Formatting of US print magazines

So this has been bothering me for a while: I am living in Germany and had and have some subscriptions to US Magazines (Wired, Locus, NY Times Magazine). Why do they have this strange formatting where they interrupt articles in the middle and continue them on the end of the magazine? No German or other European magazines I came across do this and its uncomfortable to read. Is it some kind of remnant from ancient times, where every section had a predetermined allowance for pages and once an article exceeded its allowance the rest got tucked onto the end?

It's a sailboat!

Maybe you know this art print? Years ago I lost a piece of art that I loved but didn't know anything about. It was a sketch of a dry-docked small (single-person? in the perspective it looked to be about a 12-foot craft) sailboat, sail down, in a field of waving shore grass, looking out towards the sea and the back of the boat. The surf was far away, maybe 100 yards or so, and the boat was positioned in the lower right-hand quadrant of the piece though not in the corner. The original medium was was pencil or charcoal on paper. When I see it I think "New England coast" and "loneliness". It was a yellowish-greenish-sepia tone, or perhaps that was just the paper it was litho'd on. I recall it was an official print numbered in pencil on the matting and framed in a low-profile chrome frame. Do you know the work? Can you speculate on the name of the artist? I'd really like to be able to attempt to get another copy. [more inside]

Firefox Tiny Printing

Recently when I print with Firefox, it tries to squeeze everything into 1 page. The text is TINY. I have tried "Print 100%", Scale to Fit, Print regular in preferences (HP Laserjet 4200). I have tried to print with different drivers. Nothing I do save "Print 200+%" works, and that's absolutely absurd to have to do each time. Chrome prints things fine, but I really don't want to have to use a different browser each time... Anybody have an idea? Any info I seem to find on the web comes up with old FF2 and FF3 printing issues. Nothing with a more current version on the mozilla forums.
